I'm always excited about my runs but they always end up being a spur of the moment thing. I do plan when to run, but distance/time, what I'll listen to, and the route are all things I hurriedly decide on as I'm leaving the house. Yesterday evening I spent a little time thinking about todays run. I decided on running the NRC Stress free run (a 25 minute run), and I planned to do it this morning instead of in the evening which I'm really finding too hot some days. And I planned my route in google maps working out a half way point to turn around.
I was quite inspired yesterday as there was a 10k race I think organised by the Moray Road Runners and I saw a number of them passing on my Sunday morning walk, which set me thinking about this route.
I wasn't planning to do the full 10k as A) Not allowed to and B) I wouldn't stand a chance.
So I did my stretches before 7 and then set off for my warm up walk. After the walk ended I switched on my NRC Guided Run (A brilliant one by the way which I might keep returning to), and began running - uphill! I don't usually head this direction as the hill has always put me off, but seeing the runners do it yesterday put me in the right mindset. I actually managed that part really easily, one foot in front of the other and after doing that the rest of the run was a joy. I'd beaten the hardest part right at the beginning of the run. Maybe I could have done the 10k!
After the guided run stopped, I continued on for another three minutes before stopping at the place I had began running. What a great run.
However, the last five minutes or so, my ankle was feeling a bit tender at the back. The thick tendon there. And once I was home and showered, it was a little painful to put weight on. I'm hoping it's going to be okay as I'm planning my first parkrun this Saturday.
I'm resting it now and have applied ice twice in the last three hours. Anything else I should be doing? I don't want to take ibruprofen if I can help it.
Since the run, the sun has been getting hotter and I've a feeling it would have been difficult to run later in the day. It was still hot at 7AM but manageable. And despite the injury/niggle it was a very enjoyable run
All being well, the next one will be Wednesday's Tech-Free run for the graduates club challenge.
