Consolidation week 3 run 1

I'm always excited about my runs but they always end up being a spur of the moment thing. I do plan when to run, but distance/time, what I'll listen to, and the route are all things I hurriedly decide on as I'm leaving the house. Yesterday evening I spent a little time thinking about todays run. I decided on running the NRC Stress free run (a 25 minute run), and I planned to do it this morning instead of in the evening which I'm really finding too hot some days. And I planned my route in google maps working out a half way point to turn around.

I was quite inspired yesterday as there was a 10k race I think organised by the Moray Road Runners and I saw a number of them passing on my Sunday morning walk, which set me thinking about this route.

I wasn't planning to do the full 10k as A) Not allowed to and B) I wouldn't stand a chance.

So I did my stretches before 7 and then set off for my warm up walk. After the walk ended I switched on my NRC Guided Run (A brilliant one by the way which I might keep returning to), and began running - uphill! I don't usually head this direction as the hill has always put me off, but seeing the runners do it yesterday put me in the right mindset. I actually managed that part really easily, one foot in front of the other and after doing that the rest of the run was a joy. I'd beaten the hardest part right at the beginning of the run. Maybe I could have done the 10k! :)

After the guided run stopped, I continued on for another three minutes before stopping at the place I had began running. What a great run.

However, the last five minutes or so, my ankle was feeling a bit tender at the back. The thick tendon there. And once I was home and showered, it was a little painful to put weight on. I'm hoping it's going to be okay as I'm planning my first parkrun this Saturday.

I'm resting it now and have applied ice twice in the last three hours. Anything else I should be doing? I don't want to take ibruprofen if I can help it.

Since the run, the sun has been getting hotter and I've a feeling it would have been difficult to run later in the day. It was still hot at 7AM but manageable. And despite the injury/niggle it was a very enjoyable run :)

All being well, the next one will be Wednesday's Tech-Free run for the graduates club challenge.

Hope your ankle feels better tomorrow - take care & don't push it if it is still sore!

Thank you, hopefully it will. I keep icing it and will make sur I have my feet up. No run till Wednesday so hopefully time for it to feel a bit better. Think I might do a 20 minute run Wednesday just to be safe.Cheers :)

Your doing brilliantly , It sounds like your Achilles tendon , It’s tight at the back of your heal and tender to touch , I tore mine a few years ago jumping a stream with walking boots , 👎 I put a heel insert in my shoe and it instantly took the pain away 🐈

Yes, that sounds exactly what it feels like. Very tender to touch if I gently squeeze it either side. With the heel insert, was it one that went beneath the heel or at the back of the heel? I looked online and see there's two types. It sounds like a plan :) Many thanks for the advice!

Sorry for delay I was working , It was beneath my heel , It wasn’t to big , I was recommended to get it and never thought it would work but it did , I also wore a tubigrip elasticated bandage , I used frozen peas for the ice 😂 I stretched it 3 times a day advise from the physio , I’m sure the heel insert was shock absorber , hope this helps 🐈
