Another newcomer to bridge... having graduated a few weeks ago and consolidated, I have now decided to pop over here as I'm having a go at Juju's magic plan alongside the awesome Coach Bennett at NRC. So I'm in week 1 with a 30 minute run and a 19 minute fartlek completed. We'll I didn't know what a fartlek was to begin with, I had to look it up, but wow was it exhilarating and so much fun. I felt absolutely amazing at the end. I must have another go though as I've still got to get the hang of what a 6/10 or 8/10 effort means for my running. I think I went too fast, so next time I'll temper the speed and see how that works. Coach B was amazing for the beginners fartlek and that's what I'll do again at some point. Might be a parkrun tourist on Saturday at my son's for my next run. But with 2 very young children in their house, that might not pan out. Happy running🏃‍♀️

A massive welcome to you! Lovely to see you here. That fartlek run is great fun. I think am of us have a tendency to go a big quick on the speedy bits-that will come with practice.

It’s best to keep most of your runs at the conversational pace of couch to 5k-even elite athletes aim for 80% easy to 20% hard running so that’s worth bearing in mind when you’re planning your weeks. Juju’s magic plan is a great one-that’s what I did to get to 10k.

It’s an exciting time with lots of new things to experiment with! Have a lot of fun! You might like go check out the quest post where many posters like to check in with how they’re doing and set themselves some goals (which could be as simple as “keep running!”). This is the first one in July:

Can’t wait to hear how you’re getting on!

Oh a huge huge Welcome to you Sax! It’s great to have you on board and you are doing very well especially with your fartleks. I’m afraid I’ve never got the hang of them and also I’m a bit lazy …I have good fartlek intentions in the back of my mind but that’s as far as they get and I never quite get to practice them. Perhaps I should take a leaf out of your book and investigate them😂.

This is the next step of your running journey and coming here you will find lots of new things to explore, lots of great advice and also lots of fun with like minded people.

Like MissUnderstanding mentioned the quests each month are brilliant fun. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.

I hope you enjoy your running journey and have many great experiences.

Most of all have fun with it.🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️👏👏👍.
