I spent too long choosing my run today

After 2 nights of very little sleep, I spent some time deciding which run to do today. I finally fell asleep at about 3am to have the cat meowing at me at 6am.Then I dragged myself out with my neighbour and off we went.

Dinner last night was delicious, a vegan lasagne that my granddaughter had made for my daughter which was big enough for 4. But I can still feel this morning that I made a bit of a pig of myself.

I explained to my neighbour that I was tired and felt a little delicate and would probably walk instead of run.

Now, I thought I'd chosen the NRC run where you run hard for 12 minutes, turn and run back faster, the idea is you run back the same distance in 11 minutes......when I pressed start turns out I'd chosen 8 x 1 minute 5k pace with 2 minute recovery intervals.

I've said before I'm great at following instructions so I ran and felt terrible but after a minute I was slowly running recovery.

It's a bit of a saga with my Garmin that keeps updating GPS, the short version is Garmin are replacing it after weeks of do this do that delete those files send us the report.

So it's in its box waiting to be posted back and the one I'm using is a forerunner 625 which although is similar is just not the same.

Meanwhile my neighbour is running week 3 run 2 of C25k. I go ahead then during my first recovery she runs past me. I run faster again, overtake her and don't see her again until I'm walking back.

This Garmin doesn't show the time I've been running so a bit of mental arithmetic and I worked out if I did 4 sets and turn I'd be back at the beginning, or maybe 5.

So I'm running along, still feeling a bit delicate but enjoying myself, that's the third run I think to myself, then oh that's 5 so turn, but I must have lost count because the next run was the last one!!!

Where's my neighbour? She should be just a bit behind me, I run/walk back, hmm ah there she is, she'd finished and come looking for me so earbuds out and we walked back together chatting. She covered 4k by the time we were back at the car and I'd done about 4.5k so we were both happy.

It rained in the night, a bit of cooling drizzle this morning and now there's blue sky again.

Enjoy your day whatever you do 😊

We haven't had a selfie yet this week so here we are after our run .

So bad of your cat waking you up only 3 hours after you got to sleep especially after that lovely meal you had last night, well done to your neighbour on running run 2 of week 3, that's a nice photo of you and your neighbour πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβœ…πŸ‘

Thank Al, he's a horrible cat, if I stroke him he bites and if he want something he pounces and meows at me. Spoilt rotten, but at least I ran a little bit .

Aww thank you, actually I thought we looked a bit washed out, especially as we are both quite tanned due to all the time we spend outside.

That vegan lasagna sounds lovely πŸ˜‹ well done for running at all after not having any sleep πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

It's delicious, and there's nearly half of it in my fridge waiting to be reheated and eaten πŸ˜ƒ

Well done Sue. It's not easy running when you haven't got much sleep (naughty cat!) but you did it and you really went for it, that's an amazing distance to cover in those intervals!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ fab pic too 🀩

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Beatlesforever

Thanks, it included the walk run back that I'd misjudged the turn as well

Still, that's quite impressive! Especially being sleep deprived and not feeling great. Well done you πŸ‘ hope the new Garmin doesn't give you any trouble 🀞

I'm hoping it won't either, it's been a frustrating time knowing something was wrong with mine, I'm using Willows, but I really don't like it as much as mine.

Sleep deprived and running. Well done and to your friend. Your cat will be in the dog house as they say ( not literally). Enjoy the rest of your vegan lasagne.

Not sure my insides can cope with any more lentils 🀣 I'm quite sore, but it's delicious, that cat is the bane of my life, it's like living with a spoilt brat, and he's curled up by my feet now and I love him really

Well done Sue especially after having so little sleep. Sometimes we surprise ourselves don’t we? and even with very little sleep we can still do stuff.

Lovely photo by the way πŸ₯°πŸ₯°x

I don't think I put much effort in actually, they were short intervals

haha an interval is an interval, regardless of how long it is !!πŸ˜€

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Hedgehogs123

True πŸ˜‚ and I was going 45 minutes altogether, I'll do that run again one day when I feel less tired

Hedgehogs123 profile image
Hedgehogs123Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

I did the one with Coach Cory last night, it was 5 x 5 mins at 10km pace with 2 mins recovery inbetween. It felt like the last 2 intervals were getting longer and I swear the 2 min recovery slot got shorter!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Hedgehogs123

They feel like that sometimes, mind you my 10k pace is so slow that one would feel like forever, I like the short intervals because I can run faster and feel exhilarated, I'm floundering a bit but still hoping to get faster over time

Gthants profile image
Gthants60minGraduate in reply to SueAppleRun

I have a "pace", I couldn't do 10k without a support vehicle to drive me the last 5.5k, so I've no idea what a 10k pace would be! 🀣🀣🀣

I did Fartleks with CC yesterday but I lost him early on so had a faff to get him back, by which time I was playing catch-up 😁. It made me hurry up though. He’s great isn’t he! πŸ˜€

Well done πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ». I’ve done that run and got confused about when to turn back. I also forgot to turn left on the way back and ended up looping around on myself leaving me a very long walk home πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Hedgehogs123 profile image

Haha I've done that! When I was the C25K I got distracted by a munjac and just ran on following it and then realised I'd missed my turning! 🀣

Good job team! I had a phone/watch faff too - I was trying to reconnect my Garmin watch, but it kept trying to connect to the twiddly thing in the car outside on the drive that connects to my music. Gah! Got there in the end. Happy running!

I had to return my Garmin a few weeks ago and have a spare charging cable now because the instructions said not to send it back. Not sure if you're instructions are the same but a spare cable is always handy.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Freecloud

Yes my instructions are the same, I'm just off to send it, took me a couple of days to wrap it up 🀣. The one I'm using has training load which mine hasn't and it says I'm detraining 😳
