Long post alert โ€ฆ. But Iโ€™m fairly chuffed ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

On Wednesday I ran the โ€˜Not Motivated Run W/Headspaceโ€™ having again(!) lost my momentum with my running habit ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Really feeling I donโ€™t have the same motivation I had last year when I first started all of this . I had been away on holiday to Harris , taken my running gear and only managed recreational jogs at Scarista and on the dunes at Luskentyre ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ However I had a great family holiday with three grandsons to be chased after ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The takeaway line from Andy Puddicombe on the NRC APP was โ€ฆโ€ฆ.

โ€˜ I get up in the morning motivated to meditate so I meditate, I I get up in the morning not motivated to meditate so I meditateโ€™

So applicable to how approach my runs sometimes, feeling motivated or not is ok but โ€ฆ.. just run.

Often I think this, or think that about my running but I need to remember that I can let these thoughts pass โ€ฆ..just get out the door and run . Thatโ€™s how Iโ€™ll get consistent, so here I am launching back into again. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

That run was rubbish ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ a sluggish 4K .

Today I got up at 6 , lots of stretching and out to run , determined to get back to 2/3 runs a week and get my fitness back ( how many times Iโ€™ve written that one ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ)

I optimistically chose NRC โ€˜ Fear Lessโ€™ 5K Run , really enjoyed it until my phone died at 3K . I will do it again thoโ€™ . At 3K I had my usual โ€˜donโ€™t think youโ€™ll be out much longerโ€™ gremlin riding on my shoulder.

I kept going because the morning felt so good , cloudy with a strong but sort of balmy North East wind that felt quite lovely . I really felt at one with the day ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜„. I had done a loop and a half round the village , very quiet but the newly opened โ€˜deli bakeryโ€™ was busy baking sourdough and other goodies ๐Ÿ˜‹ Again I felt I was observing those early morning โ€˜beginningsโ€™ of the day โ˜€๏ธ Earlier I had passed a hedgehog on our street ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿฆ” , made me smile, heโ€™s new ๐Ÿ˜€

Onwards down from the village and my mental calculations started , if I got to my Lighthouse Road( my constant friend since the start of C25K) Iโ€™d be at roughly 3/4K . If I run to the end of it then I will jolly well have to run back up it , so that would be 5/6K . Iโ€™ll see how I feel ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I felt ok as I hit 5K at just a quarter way back up the road so maybe Iโ€™d hit 6 at the end of it ., maybe I could get beyond my current longest run of 8.2K ๐Ÿค” The thought of a 10K was lurking but that would be a bit too ambitious. Things were going ok , my legs felt good, the big spots of a summer rain had failed to come to anything even though the sky and sea were the same navy/ mauve colour and it was certainly threatening . ๐ŸŒŠโ˜”๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ That lovely wind was still there too , so decided to keep running but also for some stupid reason I decided that โ€˜psychologicallyโ€™ ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ it might help if I stopped the Garmin and track a second 5K so it didnโ€™t feel as long ( ( ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Donโ€™t ask !,) So it worked in one respect, as looking at 2.5 K again didnโ€™t seem as scary ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ but I was continually doing mental arithmetic to see if I was at 8/8.5 etc..

long story short I kept going and did two 5kโ€™s back to back so I do hope I can get my badge ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™ because 9K to 10K was a killer and I was ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต

I ended my run and walked a little before running the odd 300 metres home.

Iโ€™m delighted as the 10 K was always lurking but never looked achievable, I think Iโ€™m so in awe of the efforts of all these Olympians that I was inspired too.

My biggest mistake was not just letting the Garmin continue because of course I had no PB or any sign of my 10K success on my Garmin stats once home ๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I decided that it didnโ€™t matter , I know I did it ( and my poor wee body knows I did it ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…) . However I discovered on the website I could enter it manually ๐Ÿ‘ so itโ€™s all good ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

So today I did my 10K in 1:20:05 and my longest run of 10.19K in 1:21:03 ๐Ÿ™‚

Photo is my two 5Ks and the beautiful Isle of Harris where I should have done more running ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

So do I qualify for my 10k badge ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™‚ first 5k at 6:37am , second at 07:19am so I didnโ€™t stop ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜‚, thanks Lottie . All good here, thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thereโ€™s been quite a few of us here going through some kind of running doldrums. Weโ€™re all trying various methods to spark the old mojo into life againโ€ฆ

Good ๐Ÿ™‚ Thatโ€™s why I think this forum is invaluable . We all sometimes fly and we all sometimes fall and itโ€™s so helpful to share all that. I do find it helps me get going again when Iโ€™ve fallen into a lull .

Catching up today and seeing a lot about Jeffing and a few posts that remind me of things I enjoyed but keep forgetting to do ( speed runs etc) keeps me interested.

Hoping to refocus, even though itโ€™s only 3 weeks lull this time it kinda sets you back , I just get fed up with myself ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I think you do qualify for the badge and the words Graduate10 next to your username, congratulations, tell the administrators exactly what you ran, 2/5Ks =10K, unless you had a long rest between the two runs which I don't think you had. Go to the August graduation Healthunlocked Graduate10 homepage and tell the administrators that you have ran your first 10K ๐ŸŽ“ ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพ.

Thank you , yes I really did just try to keep it sim0le, the phone died and after that I made a conscious decision to not look at my watch very often and just run to landmarks and decide from there . RacingintheStreetGraduate10โ€ข in reply toGailXrunning

Thank you ๐Ÿ™ hope this finds you fine & well as we continue to emerge from these strange times .Still enjoying your runs & hope and experimenting with your techniques etc.

In think itโ€™s just that I have taken so long to revisit the idea of running a 10k , that you think Iโ€™ve done it ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

I have these great long conversations with myself, decide what to do ( I.e. not chase or train for a 10k ) and then go out and do the exact opposite on a whim ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™m glad I did it but I also shouldโ€™ve given my legs prior warning I think ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yes the psychology applied was to fool myself into thinking I was just running a 5K ( pretending I had not just already run 5K) . Worked in one respect and not in many others .

Job done thoโ€™ ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธAnd I learnt how to do a few things on the Garmin site ๐Ÿ˜€
