Recovering

I've had a cold or something for the last couple of weeks, but realised yesterday that I was feeling a lot better. If it hadn't been pouring with rain I'd have been out for a run, but hey ho, another day of recovery is a good thing.

This morning was glorious. The first challenge was to find something to wear, as all my proper gear is in France. I found a t shirt, then decided that black thermal leggings would pass as outerwear as long as you didn't look too closely. I still have my last pair of running shoes though they have definitely seen better days. I tried to put them as default on the Garmin and ended up 'retiring' my Brooks instead of swapping them. I'll sort that one out another day.

My old running socks which had been hiding, disguised, on the snare drum of the electronic drum kit were surprisingly handy so I was all set.

Out in the fields the sun was shining and the path was firm with only very occasional and easily avoided mud patches. A brisk breeze was blowing, it was one of those mornings where you feel you could run and run and run. Common sense took over, this is my first run after two weeks off and I'm only just feeling better so settled on 3km.

As usual the first km was the worst, toxic 10, settling into the routine. The next was a lot better. At the halfway point we had a brief conversation about carrying on to 5km but I decided to err on the side of caution and turn back. Just as well. The last km was as tough as the first, maybe I'm not quite as recovered as I thought. I slowed right down and my husband shot away ahead of me, as you can see in the photo. He was wearing his second best running gear too but at least he had proper trousers!

I noticed that my heart rate took a bit longer than normal to recover, so I'll definitely be taking it easy for the next few runs. I am so grateful to be feeling better :)

First run back after an illness can sometimes be a tough one - so it’s always wise to take it easy and then judge how your body recovers. Well done on being back out there though! 👍🙂

So many bugs and viruses this past year I’m particularly fed up with it I always seem to be on a comeback run ! Let’s hope the weather starts improving soon so we all feel better.

I'd not had a cold for years prepandemic but have had two bad ones just this year! It seems like everyone else is having the same experience too, like you say, roll on summer 🌞

So pleased you're recovering, I think I'm getting there too, all I want is a little warm weather, I'm off our soon but not sure how long for, I was almost dressed ready when sudden rain lashed against the windows

I am glad that you are feeling a tad better... a walk might be just the thing...if the rain holds off...we have high winds here and the sun just vanished behind huge black clouds !

It's so unpredictable right now, isn't it? Hope you manage to dodge the raindrops and enjoy the scenery :)

Well done you.... won't it be great when we can begin to shake off these pesky cold and bugs??

You had a good run and how sensible to ease back... always, as Sandraj39 says a good idea to take it easy. xxx

If I'd stuck to 2k I'd have been imagining I was all better. Hoping the next run is even better :)
