I’ve been aiming for a 10km and had my eye on the vitality 10k in London. It was supposed to be beginning of May so I had an achievable plan to get me to that distance by then.
It’s now moved to September 🙄 but I’m keeping to my plan and last week on Saturday I ran 9k! It’s the longest I’ve ever run and I was initially aiming for 8.5km (I’ve been up I got my distance by .5 every few weeks) but as I’d heard of plans that increase by 10% I figured I could try it… and I managed it! I wasn’t dying by the end but I was ready to stop!
I gave myself until today to rest and got out for a rainy run. I wanted to do 5, did it comfortably and felt like I could easily do more. I chose to stop and walk home. I’m nervous about getting over enthused and causing myself a mischief.
It’s a very weird feeling for someone who’s always thought I was bad at running/not good at PE to actually feel ok enough after 5k that I can choose to stop even thought I can do more.
Anyway, all good things and wondering if I can replicate my 9k this weekend 😬

Absolutely brilliant! I loved increasing from 5k to 10k. It’s such a lovely build. Just enjoy those runs and before you know it, you’ll have a 10k on your watch and a massive grin on your face! I’m doing badges this month and i wouldn’t be surprised at all if I spot you requesting yours. No rush though…it’ll come when you’re ready.
very wise. We have to curb our enthusiasm as it’s so easy to overdo it and end up on the injury couch. Take your time and enjoy those runs. The walk back home too 🙂
No problem ReyC. The + 10% is based on your total weekly running distance. I found that doing a 4k and a 5k and a longer run worked well for me. It’s good to consolidate the 9k by running it again, but you might not be able to resist the temptation to go on to 10 k and earn a new badge. Have fun.
