Talk about mixed emotions!I certainly had them on this little outing .
It has been almost 10 weeks since my last run , which was a 5k for 'Tim's run' on 27th November.
I remember starting with a headache on that very evening.
Little did I know of what would lay ahead for the next 10 weeks !
Well, I say 10 weeks, it is not actually cleared up yet ! However it is back to a stage where I feel I have at least some control over it.
My last telephone appointment with the doctor was just before new year and they said they would refer me to the ENT department of the local hospital (Shrewsbury)
Well, that appointment came through and it is ........ 18th MAY !
Anyway, the headaches have been getting less, needing the occasional paracetamol, and also the occasional decongestant though I try to avoid those as much as possible as overuse can cause a rebound effect.
Over the last couple of months I have felt both my fitness and motivation slipping away but up to very recently have not felt fit enough to do anything about it apart from a few walks .
I have been watching the weather forecast and noticed the next few days were looking reasonable and I no longer work on a Friday .
So I have been psyching myself up for a little run .
Made sure I am fully hydrated the last few days , kit on and Dynamic stretches done and out around 09:50
I kept very local on a route that was just over 1k around where I live .
I managed the first 1k ok but was certainly feeling unfit and very clunky !
I could have turned for home then but decided to go around again with a little jeffing.
I don't mind admitting it, it was tough !
But it is a start !
Having now done that first one I shall aim to do a similar session next time .
I will also go back to include some strength and flex exercises from the James dunne 30 day challenge.
So yes, mixed emotions !
Happy to have got out again but frustrated with what I have lost .
BUT I am where I am and will move forward (gently) from here .
Oh, and a picture of Misty with attitude π€£

Oh this is such fantastic news! Congratulations on that first run back. I felt like a drunken octopus on mine. It got better and it absolutely will for you too. Now youβre a runner who ran today instead of ten weeks ago. Thatβs just super. πββοΈππͺ
Hope Misty gave you the appropriate congratulations on your return β€οΈ
Great to read this post π your appt date is a joke but Iβm glad youβre feeling a little better to get out for that trot! I still canβt get back to my previous fitness in November either itβs taking an age and Iβm trying to be patient but now Iβve got pain in my calf and hamstring so no running again for a bit. π
Yes it's very frustrating!Unfortunately we don't just loose aerobic fitness, it's also resistance to injury... So I will get back to some strength training also
That's encouraging news Instructor57. Well done. I wish you all the best running whatever you can whenever you can, and enjoying as much of it as possible. Best of luck with ENT.
Great to hear this Ian! And that your symptoms seem to be improving. I remember a run where I honestly felt like a car with square wheels or at least a human with 2 left feet, but it goes away π. And running in a straight line can be an issue too sometimes π€£. Iβm sure this run perked you up no end. I think we all need to channel a bit of Misty and her attitude, she is such a character.
Oh that cat, she is so cute βΊοΈ. Itβs horrible when you donβt feel yourself, it just affects everything. I really hope youβre turning a corner.
Misty looks very regal! Well done! I'm sure it won't take long to build up slowly and it is such a beautiful day here, I hope that maybe the hope of some signs of spring will help you!Lots of us have been struggling it seems! I haven't run for a fortnight for various reasons, but we'll all be back!
What a lovely photo of Misty, that was a nice short run for you Ian, perhaps after 10 weeks off running you could do some of the earlier weeks of C25K, of course that depends on how you feel.
This is fabulous, fabulous news....a huge well done to you...because, just like MissUnderstanding I know exactly how that first run felt!!!You have had a rotten time and still you wait for some support .
But , this run is a positive start and you are on a gentle return .I am so glad.
Do keep up some strength and stamina work...it does pay dividends. Truly.
Well done my friend...and Misty needs to give you some tlc...xxx
Welcome back so pleased you're feeling a little better. As others have said now spring is on its way it lifts us up .Follow the advice you have given others and take it slowly. X
A trot is a trot - tentative or not! (Iβm a poet!)
Well done for getting out there after 10 weeks. Hope the head pain issues get sorted out and the running may just help with the congestion. I found that my congested head felt much better after a run in early January - was just sure to wear warm headgear.
Love that picture π Hey youβre an inspiration to anyone who is on the IC or laid low at this time. Youβve listened to your body, and your own advice I imagine, and have made your first steps back to recovery.
Go you! Good luck Instructor57 in your return to running. π
Many thanks, I appreciate your comments, it's been a frustrating time but at least back out again and although I aim to get back to where I was (and beyond) I'm in no rush πAnd yes, the expression on Misty's face in that picture describes her character completely π
great news that youβve made it back out there. As OF says slow and steady so welcome to the πand π’. Take it easy and donβt be too hard on yourself. Happy running πββοΈ πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Congratulations on getting back out. The hardest step is the one out of the door and you did it and went further than you planned. A good base from which to work back up. So many of us have been hit by endless colds/illness this winter. I havenβt had a break from running, but my pace and fitness have plummeted so I finally saw my gp and have been prescribed a pre-run inhaler, which is already helping me breathe better and stop coughing. Onward and upward!
Great news! Onwards and upwards! But I know how you feel - I managed a W1R1 again this week but think I'll be stuck repeating that one for a while yet.
Thank you! I'm not very optimistic but not running hasn't really helped matters so I've adjusted my expectations and decided I'd rather be running a little than not at all!
It's so good to see you getting a run in, it really is hard to describe what a boost it gives after so long unable to do it. Jeffing is such a great way of rebuilding lung capacity, it's enabled me to keep a toe in the water as it were, over the last year. (May, though..π here's hoping you'll continue to improve in the meantime π€)
Great to hear your getting back to running. I hope you continue to get better. I'm slowly getting back to some level of fitness and bit by bit I know you will bounce back and get to where you want to be. Well done on your first return run.
