As with last week I was so lucky with the weather, it is such a lovely day!
I headed out to do a 9k but as with last week I decided to push myself that extra 1k and this week I made it to the magic 10k.
I will confess I did walk about 10 paces while checking my distance at 8.4k and deciding to push on but I forgot to pause the app so it’s a fair time. Not fast but it felt like a steady pace and I was planning to stay around 7min/km so it was a bit faster than I had planned.
Who would have thought back in June that this was possible when I couldn’t even run for 1 minute.
Thank you all so much for your kindness and encouragement I certainly couldn’t have done it without you. x
Congratulations on completing your first 10K, I am so glad that you enjoyed your run today

Oops. I replied to myself not you! I keep doing that
Thank you so much. I do feel rather pleased /amazed that I could do such a thing. I have always thought I couldn’t run and since the 100m at school was all I was up to I thought that would never change!
I have learnt the last few years that you just need to persevere and you will get there and having a plan to follow is key for me.
Two years ago I couldn’t cycle and then I trained for a 65 mile charity bike ride. I reminded myself of that on hard runs.
Fantastic effort pushing on to 10k. I find it amazing how many of us at 9k think we’ll just go the full 10 when months earlier a jump from intervals to straight 20mins was a major achievement. Well done you
Well done Rainbow, totally smashing it! Reaching 10K is amazing, it makes you feel like anything is possible. Reflecting on your journey is all the proof you need to know how far you can actually go! Xx
I didn’t believe in my 10K until I did it the second time! I kept telling myself it was probably just a fluke 🤣🤣 how we doubt ourselves, so unnecessary.
I’ve just returned from holidays and smashed out 2x 5K runs this week and parkrun this morning. I have my 5K first race on Boxing Day and a New Years 10K race a couple weeks later! In 2020 I will explore local 5K and 10K races (my comfort zone for now) and then who knows what will be next. I need to work on strengthening as I am a slow runner I think... that’s the New Years resolution I think xx
You have something to work for, even if it’s next October, GSR is a good target and it’s road running, plenty of training in store for you. You may do some Smaller ones in between, have fun With it, we are runners now 👍
I need to strengthen and work on hills over the winter. I have booked to go to RunFestRun for the day next year so will look forward to that. It’s in Windsor next year.
Is that an official race? I can’t do Saturdays as I have parkrun and I have volunteer duty too. I am definitely eyeing up dorney lake for a 5K/10K on Sunday if I can find a race.
I’ve entered the Windsor racecourse 5K race for life on Sun 31st May.
Hi. Yes it is an official race but sadly on Saturday.
I’m actually not local. I live just outside Winchester. It just happens that both of these things are in the same place. I chose the Dorney Lake 10k as it’s flat and RunFest just happens to be in Windsor as well.
I do come that way a few times a year to meet a friend as it’s about half way between us and it is lovely.
Christmas and New Year aren’t great for me this year as my son is coming home from Canada for three weeks 🥳. I haven’t seen him since August last year so will be staying close to home.
Thanks so much Rowers. I do love this forum filled with lovely people achieving goals they never thought they could and being truly supported. Really inspiring.
Do you run faster at parkrun than on your own? I know I do. It's important to make it your run, at your pace. It's very easy to get caught up with the speed of everyone around you. Stick to your pace - however it may feel, there will still be lots and lots of people behind you. A little bit faster than normal is OK, but tiring - you need to go slowly enough to still enjoy it 🙂
