I DID IT!!! 10k

As with last week I was so lucky with the weather, it is such a lovely day!

I headed out to do a 9k but as with last week I decided to push myself that extra 1k and this week I made it to the magic 10k.

I will confess I did walk about 10 paces while checking my distance at 8.4k and deciding to push on but I forgot to pause the app so it’s a fair time. Not fast but it felt like a steady pace and I was planning to stay around 7min/km so it was a bit faster than I had planned.

Who would have thought back in June that this was possible when I couldn’t even run for 1 minute.

Thank you all so much for your kindness and encouragement I certainly couldn’t have done it without you. x

Congratulations on completing your first 10K, I am so glad that you enjoyed your run today

To get your graduation10 badge and the word GRADUATE10 next to your username leave a message on the December 🎄 🎅 graduate10 page on the right side of the healthunlocked Graduate10 homepage and tell the administrators that you have ran your first 10K. 😊 🏃🏾 🎓

in reply toAlMorr

Thank you so much. I will have a look for that. 😊

in reply toAlMorr

Can you only see this on a computer?

There are some Smartphones or other devices that won't show the C25K on Bridge to 10k Home page, just to it from your computer.

How nice to have a few weeks off. Enjoy it 🤗

in reply toBuddy34

I can’t wait. I’ve only had 3 weeks off since August last year so I am truly ready for a break!!😀

Woo hoo! Fantastic and good luck on next weekend’s bling. 👏👏👏 🍾

in reply toNewRunner4

Oops. I replied to myself not you! I keep doing that

Thank you so much. I do feel rather pleased /amazed that I could do such a thing. I have always thought I couldn’t run and since the 100m at school was all I was up to I thought that would never change!

I have learnt the last few years that you just need to persevere and you will get there and having a plan to follow is key for me.

Two years ago I couldn’t cycle and then I trained for a 65 mile charity bike ride. I reminded myself of that on hard runs.

Onwards now to the Great South Run next year!

NewRunner4Graduate10 in reply to

And pleased you should be! Like you I still find it hard to believe I’m actually doing this running lark and have stuck to it since May this year.

Great South Run is a fab goal - you’ve got this!

in reply toNewRunner4

Thanks and well done to you for sticking with it.

Fantastic effort pushing on to 10k. I find it amazing how many of us at 9k think we’ll just go the full 10 when months earlier a jump from intervals to straight 20mins was a major achievement. Well done you

in reply toGrannyhugs

Thanks so much. It is all really surprising and amazing!

Well done Rainbow, totally smashing it! Reaching 10K is amazing, it makes you feel like anything is possible. Reflecting on your journey is all the proof you need to know how far you can actually go! Xx

I didn’t believe in my 10K until I did it the second time! I kept telling myself it was probably just a fluke 🤣🤣 how we doubt ourselves, so unnecessary.

We are awesome. Don’t stop now, keep going x

in reply toJaoJao

Thanks JaoJao I have an official one next weekend and then I will have the bling to remember it by.

Next challenge the GSR next October so ages to train and hopefully NOT fall off the wagon.

How about you. What are you aiming for next? x

I’ve just returned from holidays and smashed out 2x 5K runs this week and parkrun this morning. I have my 5K first race on Boxing Day and a New Years 10K race a couple weeks later! In 2020 I will explore local 5K and 10K races (my comfort zone for now) and then who knows what will be next. I need to work on strengthening as I am a slow runner I think... that’s the New Years resolution I think xx

in reply toJaoJao

Hope you had a great holiday. Good plan!

JaoJao profile image

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to

You have something to work for, even if it’s next October, GSR is a good target and it’s road running, plenty of training in store for you. You may do some Smaller ones in between, have fun With it, we are runners now 👍

in reply toJaoJao

I need to strengthen and work on hills over the winter. I have booked to go to RunFestRun for the day next year so will look forward to that. It’s in Windsor next year.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to

Ah Windsor is local to me, if you’re around for a local parkrun come to Upton Court and I’ll give you a personal welcome and briefing 👍👍

Am I the only one who talks about strengthening but never actually gets round to doing it 😢

in reply toJaoJao

Great thanks. That will also be on my list for 2020! 😀

in reply toJaoJao

Do you fancy a 10k next Saturday at Eton Dorney? I’m going and it’s all flat. 😊

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to

Is that an official race? I can’t do Saturdays as I have parkrun and I have volunteer duty too. I am definitely eyeing up dorney lake for a 5K/10K on Sunday if I can find a race.

I’ve entered the Windsor racecourse 5K race for life on Sun 31st May.

Where about are you? Seems you are local...

in reply toJaoJao

Hi. Yes it is an official race but sadly on Saturday.

I’m actually not local. I live just outside Winchester. It just happens that both of these things are in the same place. I chose the Dorney Lake 10k as it’s flat and RunFest just happens to be in Windsor as well.

I do come that way a few times a year to meet a friend as it’s about half way between us and it is lovely.

JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to

My Boxing Day 5K race is at Black Country Park (Buckinghamshire) and the New Years 10K race is at Black Park too! If you’re interested xx

in reply toJaoJao

Christmas and New Year aren’t great for me this year as my son is coming home from Canada for three weeks 🥳. I haven’t seen him since August last year so will be staying close to home.

Will definitely join you at some point soon. x

Not long now! It's an easy route. Together with the race magic you'll absolutely smash it 👍

in reply tolinda9389

Thanks. I am a little nervous as I do prefer running on my own. I have done Parkrun twice and for some reason find it exhausting!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to

Do you run faster at parkrun than on your own? I know I do. It's important to make it your run, at your pace. It's very easy to get caught up with the speed of everyone around you. Stick to your pace - however it may feel, there will still be lots and lots of people behind you. A little bit faster than normal is OK, but tiring - you need to go slowly enough to still enjoy it 🙂

in reply tolinda9389

Thanks. Yes I will definitely be running at my own pace or I won’t make it round!
