Mixing it up every now and again makes it more interesting doesn’t it. It’s a while since I’ve tried jeffing, but I found it wore me out more than running constantly! Glad you enjoyed it!
'The Jeffers' are usually in ultra marathon groups and many will 'Jeff' marathons as well. Shorter distances, including half marathons, for many of those guys are usually faster non-stop running, and many won't take and liquids either. It's about getting the correct ratio between tempo, running and walking (the best way to get it right is to visit the great man's website - jeffgalloway.com)). If you don't get those bits right you'll struggle.
Thanks for the link. I was probably doing it all wrong! I’ve never managed any great distance yet and even half marathons are way out of my league for now, but who knows!
We just don't know. And then suddenly something clicks and we nail a half marathon. And then we carry on to the marathon. Or beyond. Take it as it comes and Jeff's website is a good starting point towards those longer runs. Who knows indeed....
Hi doggytail, it really is a case of whatever works, but jeffing is just a form of interval training which is a core component of 'serious' running training. There are some regular jeffers at my local Parkrun who are in my sights but always stretch the elastic and finish a few minutes ahead of me. Yet to check whether PR is part of their training or whether that's just the way they like to get round. I like to think I'm a purist at PR and I'll run (jog) all the way, no walking for me.......! But a sneaking side of me says if I could improve my PB I might be prepared to compromise! 😂 😉
Fabulous, it's fun to mix it up 😊 I Jeff anything over 5K at much lower ratios (40:30 and drop to 30:30 if need be). I was picking up niggles when trying to straight run for over 7K and found that didn't happen when jeffing. If I'm honest, I really enjoy the transitions; over longer distances I find them distracting and fun, and the time goes way quicker 😊 plus the walk section gives me time to blow my nose 😄
I jeff all my runs, its a game changer! Also, try lowering your ratios - 30:30, even 15:30 can make you faster and run for longer. (I dont know what sorcery it is but it works!). Last year I jeffed a half marathon, another runner came in behind me and had been behind for 3 miles. She said she thought she would catch me on the walk segments, but found it impossible. Jeffing can make you faster! If you are on Facebook, there is a "Girls that Jeff" group that has lots of advice. They've recently become an affiliated club - so Jeffing really is proper running.Sorry to hear about the runners tummy. Maybe try to leave a couple of hours after eating before running, just to rule out undigested food being the problem.
You can set the intervals up on a smartwatch if you have one but it was a step too far for my 'useless with tech' brain 😄 clip the Gymboss on and off you go 😊
