Morning all, it's been 8 days since I've done anything like running, I haven't done anything like anything, my young neighbour called hers full on flu, anyway, I dragged myself painfully in to work Thursday and did very little then again Friday because we were interviewing, I hid behind a mask most the day and was very glad to get home. Saturday we topped up the fridge and freezer and this morning I woke thinking of a podcast I'd listened to before Christmas, it was an interview with a woman who lost 100 pounds and how she did it One thing she said stuck with me
"Every day I try to be a little better than the day before" small steps
This morning I was thinking how to apply that to all aspects of life, so persuaded Willow a short walk would be nice, so to the beach we drove .
Wow it's blustery still and the waves are huge, I'm not tempted to run and I'm not tempted to paddle, we walked just over a kilometre turned round and walked back where I hopped onto the beach and took a couple of photos, then back to the car, not far, nit fast but it's a start and at least if we walk every day, when I'm ready to run again my body will be ready.
Run happy all

No it's not just you, my daughter is terrified I'll get washed away one day, the photos don't do it justice it was so beautiful, and it's different every hour of every day. Willow stood at the top of the beach nervously waiting for me to go back, but I'm not a brave person and very careful, I just can't wait til spring when I can swim again.
Sorry to hear you’re under the weather Sola, I hope you feel better soon! The sea is spectacular in this weather isn’t it although I haven’t seen it today - every time I think I’ll go out for a walk, it tips down again!
Thank you, we were lucky this morning because there was sun as well as spectacular billowing grey clouds over the downs, this flu knocked us for 6 and the poor girl next door too along with half my colleagues but I see light at the end of the tunnel and have a little more energy
I envy your access to the sea, I can practically smell the ozone in that wonderful photo. It still surprises me how much better I feel for a walk, however short, when I'm unwell or recovering. Hope you're better soon x
I'm determined to get into routines so that when I do retire I'll have something to do and not get bored, we are lucky, I can walk to the sea in 15 minutes, but Willow prefers the other end of the village where it's quieter, when I run on my own I often run to the beach then along the top towards town and back, it's about 4k to the pier,
A bracing walk by the sea- what better to clear the head. The sea looks so atmospheric and brooding. It's rotten when you feel like that isn't it, but it sounds like you've turned a corner and hopefully on the right track now.
I think I'm on the mend, Willow has been achy and lethargic without all the coughing and nose blowing so I think he's had the same but milder, it's a battle getting him out so I feel like I'm winning when I do .
Those are wise words from that lady - what an achievement. I’m pleased you got out for a very blustery walk - not surprised you didn’t want a paddle, you’d be half way to France by now! Enjoy the rest of your day 😊.
I hope that you are feeling better soon. A really good idea to get out and do some very light exercise. I hope that you are feeling much better soon and can pick up the pace, when you feel ready.
Although I’m covid positive I don’t have any symptoms other than what feels like a very light head cold. I did just go out for a short walk. Nothing energetic at all but it really feels good to have got out of the house.
Let’s hope that we will bounce back and soon be posting of some runs again 😁
I'm so glad your symptoms are mild, I've managed to avoid COVID even when all around me at work had it, more than once, with daily testing I would have known.Let's both get better soon
It felt good to be by the sea, under the weather yes an odd phrase, I'm still coughing a lot and blowing my nose a lot but that bone aching lethargy is fading so I'm smiling. We plan to go after work tomorrow but it's hard to get Willow out if it's raining.
Hope you both feel better soon, nothing like a walk to blow the cobwebs away. It must be great to be in walking distance of the sea. The sea looks dangerous like that, but good photo as well. You loose a lot of energy with the flu just makes you so lethargic. Take your time. Mr D and I are hoping to get into a routine as well as newly retired. I am doing the 1000 mile walk challenge over a year including the 3 min run 2 min walk that I sometimes do. so that’s a bit of incentive, and Mr D hoping to do his running twice weekly so it will be a start. It will just take time after working all your life. Take it easy .
Love those crashing waves Sola. A brilliant combination of strong winds and spring tides! I confess I haven’t stepped out the door but tomorrow looks promising.
You have had a rough time,,, and I am so sorry that you too, are crocked... there are a few of us walking the walk right now, aren't there x
I am loving that mantra... "Every day I try to be a little better than the day before" . I may use that if I may to add to my slow and steady one that I am saying every single day !
HUGE well done you... are you able to take any time off or not? You sound as if you need some rest time my friend... xxx
I've had time off thanks Floss and today felt a little better, of course you can use the saying, I felt something when I heard her say that and started to think of all aspects of my life that I could improve little by little The trouble with my work is so many are off with it that the rest of us are struggling but hopefully we'll go healthily into spring soon xx
Well make sure you take it easy. I had the nasty cold/cough virus ( which I’m sort of inclined to think is yet another variety of covid) and didn’t run for 5 weeks. I barely managed to walk very far and was very short of breath. Didn’t even manage to do more than a couple of my Pilates sessions even. I ran for the first time a week ago last Sunday and managed a ful l5k. And only just a minute slower than my usual time.
Then I had a busy week and just did not get time to run at all again until today. And I struggled every inch of the way!!! Managed a total of 16 minutes, had to walk 3 times and use my inhaler each time, my legs were like rubber too.
So just to warn you there will be ups and downs in your recovery and make sure you don’t overtire yourself
Thank you, our short walk was just right, it's a horrible one though but I think I'm coughing less today, I'm not in a hurry to run, I'll know when I'm ready
Hope you're feeling better soon SueAppleRun , there's a really nasty bug which knocked my son for six last week. Luckily he was at home so I could feed him chicken soup and paracetamol.
That sea looks stunning, we had a walk along the beach near here yesterday and it was a lot less dramatic, but there is nothing like that fresh, salty air to rejuvenate you is there?
Carry on walking, no point trying to rush things when you're recovering from a virus. Son's a lot better thanks but now has a bad cough. He's going back to uni at the end of the week so I just have to try and make sure he's well before then!
