Well I've had ages with no running. I've suffered from horrible sciatica and been pre-occupied with moving house. But here I am moved to Sheffield - and for the first time since forever this morning i got up and went for a run - I got though the sciatic pain and ran a mere 3K at a snails pace. But I I've got started again, and that is the main thing Need all the encouragement I can get .

Hi mgrds , well done on restarting running!

How long is ages? If it's been a few weeks or more, and depending on how active you've been while not running, you might find it helpful to restart C25K and build back gradually, rather than going out and doing 3k right away in one go. Or if you've been doing other exercise, perhaps begin with week 3.

I know from experience how frustrating it can feel to have to do less rather than more, but it would be a real shame for you to get going again and pick up an overuse injury.

Wishing you lots of luck!

well slow 3k went OK ! Still got sciatic pain but don't want to give in to it. Will prob do a few more 2, 3, 4 k runs to see how they go before trying 5K and maybe a Parkrun.

I'm a reasonably fit and active 66 year old male

If I get any serious pain I'll just walk a bit ! I'm noy hammering it - but don't feel the need to redo a full C25K... My slow but hilly 3K felt comfortable enough .

Well done on getting out there again. Sciatica is awful and I'm not sure if you've sought advice as it can be caused by many things, so it might be worth getting a physiotherapists view to enable you to run without injury.

Sheffield has that effect on people! Despite all the hills.

I'd suggest trying if possible to avoid hard surfaces as much as possible to help your back. I don't know which side of the City you are or how mobile but the Peak District is your oyster.

Trying to do something about back pain was what got me into yoga, I've found it a really useful support (in addition to minimalist running shoes and the attention to what surfaces I'm running on)

I am there with you. Not ran in a while. It’s tough getting back running again. I did a parkrun on Sunday and I will be going for another run soon today. At the moment it is running and walking but I’ll get back there again. Just keep getting out the door every 2nd day or 3 times per week. January is a great month to get back running. Means your going to enjoy running during the summer.
