A Successful Hubby Trail Run 😍

I’ve been hounding my husband to join me on a trail run for a while now, given he was a cross country runner in his youth. Finally today he caved and joined me. His fitness has fallen flat this year with not teaching Phys. Ed. for the first time in over 20 years and taking on a second part time job in the evenings/weekends. I promised a short 3k run where we would run the horseshoe I ran last week but instead of doing it as an out and back, we would stop at the road and walk the gravel road back to the truck (about a km or so cool down walk). The hill at the start was killer as expected but he gave me a nice little backside boost at the steepest part and he pointed out a fox den in the side of the hill I’ve never noticed before. He also noticed I came within a few inches of stepping on a large bull snake that was sunning itself beside the path as we ran the final stretch through the meadow. It lurched and scurried off after I ran by but I was able to come back and see him before he was gone 😳. It was a good 3 feet long and quite thick. I wonder how many other close calls I’ve had without knowing?

Hubby did awesome on the run but has expressed some concerns about his ability to walk tomorrow....but then in the next sentence commented how much he does enjoy the runner’s high. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to convince him to come out again, keeping the runs shorter to start with. I’ve been reading Born to run and we watched a short video on the Tarahumara tribe this morning before heading out so he was watching my foot fall figuring it would be hard to heel strike on this terrain and he was correct. I seem to land more midfoot while running the trails. He apparently was also watching more than the scenery and my footfall as he followed me on the trails πŸ˜‚ but if that’s what it takes to get him to come with me, stare away honey, stare away...just don’t trip because you’re not watching the trail πŸ˜‚

Sounds like a success to me! Looking good there too, nice terrain by the looks of things.....I’m oblivious to stuff too when I’m out, it’s always my OH who spots stuff, last week he spotted a grass snake sunning itself in the early morning sun - very rare to actually see them here in the uk - more large shoe lace size than your bull snake though! πŸ˜‚

I find if I let my mind or gaze wander from the trail immediately in front of me, I get a really close look - face first πŸ˜‚. Fortunately with the terrain I stop often, catch my breath and enjoy my scenery.

Me too........I have to pay attention to where my feet are going, otherwise the next face plant is never far away.....πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Lovely post about a fab run, sums up why we do it. And my hubby seems to see far more than I do when out running!! And notices my gait, foot fall etc! etc! But it’s having fun that counts. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’•

Sounds like a great run and the lovely photo says it all! Here's to many more successful runs together 🀞😎

Here's hoping 🀞. His shins and calves are a little stiff today but he appears to be moving ok and is already talking of trying to get a quick run on the mountainbike course this week before we head back out to the lake this weekend πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Fab photo, well done on persuading him out there with you, sounds like it was good for you both 😊. I have visions of you running serenely on, while Mr Sask scans the scenery, talking urgently into a headset, and pointing at stuff. Wearing cool sunglasses at all times, naturally.

πŸ˜‚ Love the visual, especially of me running serenely 😊. He is normally a lot faster than me (but I can run a lot further) so this should even us out a bit.

What a lovely photo, Sask! You guys look radiant! How lovely to have a running buddy/husband. 😍 Looks like a beautiful place to run, too. xxx

I keep trying but he's resisting running any distance......I'll just keep nagging, wearing him down πŸ˜‚. My plan has me upping my distance pretty quick but hopefully he'll be hooked by then 🀞. It was really nice sharing my run with him.

Fab! What a lovely memory and what a great photo, you both look so happy πŸ™‚

As you say, whatever it takes but maybe next time he can run ahead of you ......πŸ˜‰

Then I will end up flat on my face .... I must focus on my footing in front of me to avoid a face plant....although maybe he'll turn around quick enough to catch me ...swoon 😘

Thanks. I've had them ever since I started running. They're starting to show their age a bit but have held up well.

SNAKES! 🐍 😲🍿.... 😳🍿.....Yeah, be careful out there. Your runs are far more exciting than my runs. I nearly stepped in some duck poo the other day, pretty scary stuff.

I LOVE Born to Run, it's such an inspiring book. I started putting Chia seeds on my cereal thinking It would make me run like the Tarahumara... It didn't.

Great photo Sask! You guys are living the dream!

I was just thinking about that yesterday, that I must add chia seeds to my diet....but it won't make me run like the Tarahumara?!? Disappointing, I thought that was all that was needed 🀣

Duck poo is pretty scary stuff 😁

Brilliant Allie, you do both look radiant, keep reminding your hubby of that runners high!πŸ˜‰ and how nice it was having him along making you feel safe..πŸ˜†

As for that snake probably better not to know what you have nearly trodden on, on previous runs!😯

It is lovely that you can share trail runs together...and handy having someone analysing your gait too!😁

Happy running 😊xxx

Well done! I can't get my other half to walk any further than the front door to the car, let alone run with me!

I've been setting the stage for years and finally got him to come. It's all about baby steps, but he's made it pretty clear he's not interested in running far. I'm hoping I'll slowly change that idea too 😁. 3k...6k....9k....14k....before you know it, he'll be out there covering the full 20k with me 🀞

Sounds like an awesome run Sask. It's great you've got mr sask running again. I'm sure it will all come back to him, given his phys ed and cross country experience. Close call on the Bull snake! I guess most of the time the wildlife hears us coming a mile away and scurries.
