i have a day off today and had planned another 2.5k "Get back into it run" followed by a flu jab
however, not much ever goes to plan
i was in the pharmacy late afternoon yesterday and asked the pharmacist what time his walk in vaccination would start on Tuesday he told me 10:30 and then said but I can do it now if you like
I accepted but
wondered if it would affect my run this morning.
I actually felt ok, just a slight headache this morning following a poor nights sleep
it was quite cool as I went out around 08:30 so wore running tights and a long sleeve zipped running top , and of course my new running shoes 😁
actually, there not a lot to say about the run, it was fine.
I'm still way off from where I used to be but I accept I am where I am and I will take as much time as necessary to regain my former fitness .
for me it's all about fitness and enjoyment.
not distance, pace or numbers .
in fact I didn't even look at my watch until i knew I was near the finish line .
as I knew this would be about a 20 min run I decided to listen to one of my favourite Pink Floyd tracks 'Echoes'
this track is around 24 minutes, in fact it's what I listened to on my c25k week 7 runs.
so run done , back home for porridge and a mug of tea .
Well done on that post flu jab run Ian, and for being in the moment and not worrying about the numbers 😊. We never know how vaccinations are going to affect us do we? I had both my covid booster and flu jab on Saturday, and managed a decent run on Sunday but had a bit of a headache towards the end of the day. 😁
Good to see you running more often again 😀 awesome choice of music too.
Glad the vaccine didn’t cause you too many problems, last year it laid me low for 8 days and my arm swelled, the year before no issues, so i’m going to take a chance on this year .
That was a nice 2.5K run for you this morning Ian, I don't think that I would go a run the next day after getting my Covid and flu vaccination jab, which I had three weeks ago this Friday, I didn't go to parkrun the next day. but it's not seemed to affected you at all apart from a slight headache
After reading about all those runners on this forum running HM's and 10 mile runs I thought to myself that as I haven't run a 16K/10 mile run at all this year I'll run one in a few weeks time, see how it goes, if I complete it, it will be my 6th 10 miles run
I will have a listen to that Pink Floyd track Echoes soon, one of the best rock groups of all time. 😊
By the way Birdlady64 yesterday, Tuesday and today Wednesday I walked and ran exactly 5K on the same course, on Tuesday the walk was 57:06 and I burnt 268 calories, this morning for my 123rd (not ) parkrun I ran in a time of 32:55 and burnt 371 calories, I did the walk yesterday as it was a beautiful sunny day, this morning it was cloudy but dry.
I agree with you Birdlady64 regarding having time to take in the surroundings, especially when walking, I went that walk yesterday afternoon because it was so sunny and decided that on Wednesday morning I would do it again today as my midweek run and see how much the difference in time was, walk:-57:06-run:-32:55. 😊
A good run Ian, glad there were no ill-effects from your flu jab. I had mine last month and did a decent run the next day. I have my covid booster booked for next month. I read somewhere that exercising within 24-48 hours after a vaccination helps increase the efficacy of the vaccine so I may run after my booster too.
Am pleased to see you running more regularly again 😀
The post jab reaction was not as severe but still knocked me back 48 hours. I'm surprised at the lower take up in people I know and seems to relate to them having had the C word. The numbers are interesting but enjoyment is first. A young family, obviously on holiday and all up before 8 (!) were out walking on the prom and I waved at the little one in her dad's arms and she smiled and waved back. Joy.
Ooo…I’ve never thought of adding Pink Floyd to my mix tapes! When my mind boggled at running for 8 minutes in W5, I turned to Barclay James Harvest and “She Said”…one of my all time favs…and 8 minutes long!
I saw Pink Floyd at the Rainbow in 1972…they played this new piece called “Dark Side of the Moon”….😂
Well done for running after your flu jab. I'm having my Covid jab today but don't want the flu jab at the same time. Hoping to be ok to run by tomorrow. Love Pink Floyd, great choice!
Floyd are priceless when running. I once spent weeks of marathon training listening to nothing but Wish You Were Here on the loop, the entire album non stop. Didn’t get bored of it once.
wise words!. I tweeted Coach Bennett from NRC after someone told me that as an older runner, I had to accept that I wouldn't be able to keep up my Speed and stamina. Had a good response from him, more or less along the lines of what you've said, he said there's more to running than just measuring your speed, pace and distance, it should be around enjoyment and focusing on what you get from running and what all the other benefits are
Oh, that might just about be enough justification to reactivate my twitter account!
I never tweeted and only ever used it to find out why the trains were delayed when I was commuting every day. Much more reliable than the official channels!
Hi Ian, we seem to mirror each other, checked your runs on strava, both of us have had a break from it, mine was because of a painfull small lump on my foot, shortish runs now, slow plod, no great speed, and had my covid booster last sunday too! 🤣
I had my flu jab last week at the school where I work and went for my usual run after work. 🏃♀️Apparently there is evidence to suggest that exercise before or soon after a the flu jab may actually improve the protection it gives. I think this has something to do with exercise stimulating the immune system but I don’t really understand the science! Anyway, no ill effects for me. Covid booster in a couple of weeks, then I’m sorted!🤞💉💉🙂
