A Pre 2nd jab 5K Run

So my last run was a 10K and this one was due to be either 5K or 3K .

I decided on the 5K and a morning run as my 2nd vaccination is early this afternoon !

And It's actually 6 days since my last run so I didn't want to miss another day

I chose to do the NRC 35 minute recovery run and then just extend at the end to complete the 5k

The weather was dry and reasonably warm at around 10 or 11 degrees

So shorts and short sleeved top were just right

Started off at a reasonable pace (for me) and just wanted to take in the advice and information from Coach and Andy P and relax and enjoy the run without music .

It was quite a comfortable run with no issues which makes it much more enjoyable, running in the moment makes such a difference .

I follow my usual 5k route , it's nice to pace myself by landmarks and not keep staring at my watch .

I can also consider how I feel at a certain point on the run compared to last time .

This familiarity adds to the mindfulness of the run for me !

I was so into the run that I didn't even consider the inclines , they just passed me by which is nice .

There is an interesting point made towards the end of the run saying that the success of the next run starts with the recovery from this one !

A very good point, especially for new runners if you were thinking of skipping rest days !.

So, 5K done .

Home and stretches done and a big mug of tea 😁

Happy running VR friends πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

G'luck with the 2nd jab! All I had is a sore arm and armpit-glands. They are still sore after 4 days, but I keep saying: if that is all! At least I was not ill or so. So g'luck and fingers crossed for not too heavy side-effects!

Herself had her 2nd jab (Pfizer) yesterday evening. She has sore arm. She was also feeling a bit down this morning.

My second one (AZ) isn't for another month.

Yes, I'm expecting a sore arm , this will also be Pfizer , hope your OH is back to herself soon !

Well done, Ian - I love those headspace runs. Another sub 40 minute 5K for you, too. Good that you had no issues - always a bonus! Good luck with the jab. You know I had side effects, but I was thinking of all my antibodies, primed by the first jab and now ready to attack the invader! It helped and it was a small price to pay for being fully vaccinated. Most people don’t get a reaction so fingers crossed you don’t 🀞😊

Oh I do agree with you about running in the moment. For me it makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. A nice sub-40 minute 5k run Ian. Good luck with the second jab - hopefully you won't get any nasty side effects.

Just got back and so far so good πŸ˜πŸ‘

Great post, I really like your way of pacing yourself, I think I’ll try that, forever being buzzed by my watch to check HR/pace and it’ll be nice to turn it off sometimes.Such a great point too about recovery, I’m definitely working on that one, I’m just learning how to use nutrition and hydration before/after to aid recovery too.

Good luck with Jab 2 😁

Thank you !I think we forget sometimes how important the recovery is to the next run !

Jab was fine (up to now anyway) 😁

Nice one Ian, I find those NRC runs help me relax more, running in the moment is a good description, that’s Andy P’s philosophy, that’s a good steady 5k well done πŸ‘ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I haven’t run for a few days, I’ll use that NRC one myself.

That’s how I was with AZ jab. I was shivering like mad but felt hot on my forehead. Achy legs too and couldn’t sleep first night.Hope she feels better soon. I’m hoping my next jab reaction is different 🀞🏻

Good run for you Ian before that second vaccination, I don't think it will cause you any problems, I got my second one 48 hours before I ran 8K and there were no after-effects unlike the first jab when I did have a sore arm and felt a little shivery later in the day.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

O dear, so you won't want to run a 10K this evening, better to have a few days off running before you run again, take the advice of Rebecca.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Yes, I'll have a rest ! And take Rebecca's advice πŸ‘

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

It's very strange how people react to the Covid 19 vaccination, with the first one I did feel a little shivery later in the day but when I put the heating up that shivery feeling went, my left arm was a little sore in the afternoon and also for a short while 48 hours later.

With the second vaccination, no shivery feeling whatsoever, the arm was only slightly sore when I stetched out to put a jacket on, I just hope that you recover from that second jag quickly.

Headspace is the next lot i want to try on NRC so its good to hear they have a 5k. Fantastic that you are now fully jabbed! Shame about tge side effects - its weird how variable it seems to be. I had none at all - not even a sore arm with the first AZ, so I'm hoping it will be the same with the second that I get next week. But who cares - aren't we lucky???

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Fionamags

Yes the headspace runs are good ! I've always been a fan of Andy P .My first jab was also fine (Pfizer)

I actually thought I was ok today until I got up 😐

But your right , who cares , it's a small price to pay !

Hope your 2nd is ok 🀞
