but unfortunately I usual do!!
on Monday I did something I’ve been trying so hard not to do this year. I got carried away in the garden and chopped, weeded, pulled up stubborn rampant jasmine, moved heavy pots from the front of the house to the back and equally heavy ones in reverse. I now have the still flowering but a bit tatty petunias out the back and the lovely bronze-red small flowered chrysanthemums out flanking the front door. It looks better now but I had 6 crammed old compost bags of greenery to go to the dump and I was sweaty and aching all over. Came in showered and sat in a heap for rest of evening. And I’d spent over 4 hours out there doing it. My shoulders and wrists ached from the hedge clippers, my ankles and calves aching from squatting and weeding and my back from bending over too long. I promised myself I was only going to do an hour at a time this year and I forgot!!!
Well you’d think I’d sleep after all that but you’d be wrong!! I could not get comfortable, everything hurt and I had a dreadful night so yesterday morning I did not run. I’d had about 3 hour max sleep and felt dreadful. Didn’t even go for a walk yesterday or do my minimum of 10000 steps. First time in ages!! I just sat about and drank lots of water and rested.
Last night wasn’t a lot better. I chucked some Ibuprofen down my neck at about 3.00am and dropped off eventually for a couple of hours. Felt a little better when I woke to the sound of BT “ workmen” stood gossiping in a hole on the corner that’s been there for nearly a week now. They were gossiping from 7.30 to about 11 when I finally dragged myself out to run. No wonder every job takes them so long!!
I set off to do 4 x 10 mins roughly to run for 5k. It was 18 degrees and very sunny when I set off and I was soon warm. I thought I’d have a change of route and went down the centre of town intending to head out around Asda and the new stretch along there but there were so many people around ( as I’d faffed for about 3 hours before leaving the house) so I ended up turning by the museum and going along the good old Tarka Trail.
I’d set off a bit fast trying to get through town quickly and found it a bit of a struggle to keep going for the whole of the first 10 minutes- didn’t even really take in my surroundings for the whole of my run as it was such a struggle. I did my first 1 minute walk and set off again trying to keep my pace down a bit. Well I managed a minute and a half before I had to walk again!!I only for 30 seconds just to collect myself then off I went again for another 5 minutes. And then had to walk again.
I walked for another minute, ran for 2, walked again for a minute then just about managed a bit over 4 minutes to take me up to a miserable 30 minutes and 3.63k… not even 4K!!! Walked home despondently but then got chatting to a neighbour who congratulated me on the fact he sees me going out running so often.
And when I got home my daughter pointed out that the bits I had run were faster than usual but I pointed out to her that my walking bits were also slower!!!
Oh well I should have left it another day I think. Too achey and not enough sleep and also running on empty ( which is usually ok at 8am but not by 11..12.00).
Lesson learned either don’t run on little sleep or don’t procrastinate for as long so it’s lunchtime 😂😂
