In the last month I have finally felt as though I am getting back to preCovid fitness. I’ve enjoyed my runs and my speed ( for me anyway) is creeping slowly up again. I have been looking forward to going out there.

I ran on Thursday and although it was a little slower than usual I had included a hill and was feeling great…….. usually I would then run on Saturday but I did my Pilates on Friday morning with Emma, who is my usually Pilates teacher’s sister, as Rachael is on holiday….. and I really enjoyed it but it was diferent to Rachael’s style and I used diferent muscles … which was good and by the evening I was aching. Thought I’d sleep well but I could not get comfortable and was up and down all night then dropped off about 4 and slept till 10.00am!!!!

HOWEVER when I woke up on Saturday morning my thighs ached, my hips ached, the sides of my neck and shoulders ached - too many downward dogs with Emma 😂😂 and I decided to leave it till today to run .

I did lots of stretching and gentle walking on Saturday and went to bed really tired and had a dreadful broken nights sleep.. couldn’t get comfortable, too hot, aching, needed the loo… think I prob had about 4 hours solid sleep and got up and just sat there in my running gear trying to motivate myself.

had a text from my daughter who was in the same situation but she is still recovering from being hit by the cyclist 2 weeks ago!! So she has some excuse

Anyway we egged each other on and said “see you out there maybe?”as our paths quite often cross when we run but not this morning as I was barely out there long enough

I set off thinking I would do 4 x 10 mins with 1 min walks and see how I felt and if I wanted to carry on after that. I started running after a false start when I had to go back to fetch my headphones 🙄, and headed down the Tarka Trail as usual, when it got to the 10 mins I carried on a bit to take me to the gates. And then walked “ phew that was harder than usual “ I thought and I switched off my run and walked for a couple of mins before starting another run. How I carried on for 10 minutes I do not know … I was slower and every step was like wading through treacle. I stopped my watch and had to sit down for a bit. Then I walked for a minute and set off again having turned for home. Just over 3 mins later I gave up.

I cannot remember feeling that dreadful for ages. I had used my inhaler, eaten plenty of protein yesterday, was hydrated but I felt awful. Barely managed to walk home. I’m blaming it on lack of proper sleep.

Going to draw a line under today, look after myself for the next couple days and try again on Tuesday hopefullly with more success. Just goes to show it doesn’t pay to be too cocky 😳😩😂😂

Sounds like one of those really tough runs, hopefully Tuesday will be better. but don’t worry, it takes time to be fully recovered from Covid but you will get there

It really was . I feel as worn out as if I’d done a fast 10k!! Might have a nap now 😂

Don't be too hard on yourself, sometimes all these things have an accumulative effect. I notice that as I get older lack of sleep for a few nights and / or a few busy days take just that bit longer to get over. I certainly notice it when I run and generally the Garmin shows a greater average heart rate than normal on my run because of it. Take it easy for a couple days before trying gain.

Yeah I def think lack of sleep was the main contributor here

Sorry to hear your run was hard work. I find sleep or lack of it does have a big impact on my runs and generally how my day goes. Take care and rest up.

But at least you got out there. That's an achievement in itself!

It was. I think a few people struggled yesterday- it was very humid. Wish I’d waited till today now as it’s a lot cooler and fresher but I am busy peeling and cooking apples ready to make apple and blackberry/ apple pies later. A kind neighbour put a recycling box full of Bradley’s out on her doorstep with “ Free- help yourself to apples, please leave box” note on it so I did. 😁

Yes, I think you're right about the humidity. I found running in the humid weather so much more difficult than running on the hotter days!

O dear that sounds like a run to forget and move on. Take care of yourself. as you say lack of sleep really is not helpful. Take it easy for a few days then try a shorter guided run with CB in NRC you might find that a bit easier. Fingers crossed for Tuesday s run 🤞🤞🤞

Just think of it as a rehearsal for tomorrow limberlou. You will get there, just give it time. The tarka trail sounds a great place to run

It is. I love watching the changing seasons along the river as I run and spotting ripening blackberries, sloes, apples, rosehips, wild strawberries for my foraging walks later

I believe they do a 10k/HM along it later in October I think if you are interested ? The Jewson HM/M is sept 25th along the Tarka trail northdevonroadrunners.com/C...

Ah I feel for you, there’s nothing worse than broken sleep yet you still got out there and had a run (it might have been what you wanted to do but it was still a run). I hope your next run is after you having a long uninterrupted sleep. Also hope your daughter is okay (sounds awful).

Thanks yes todays run was better 😁My daughters bruises have faded but she is still very nervous of anyone coming up behind her now and she also now has a moveable lump on the side of her ribs just under the band of her sports bra, which I finally got her to go and see dr about after 2 weeks and it’s either a haematoma or a ganglian ( either caused by the accident) and if it’s the former it should go away in about 6 weeks and if the latter will have to be removed surgically

It also still hurts if she puts any pressure on her ribs.

That’s good to hear about your run 🏃🏽‍♀️👍🏻Oh my word that sounds horrible - I hope she doesn’t require surgery and that she’s painfree very soon 🤞🏻
