19 days to go until the New Forest 10k, so I thought I’d do a nice long run now that it’s cooled down a bit. It’s also the first opportunity I’ve had to run on my own for a few weeks. This meant that I could take it nice and slowly. I started Coach Bennett’s 10k guided run, not really knowing how far I would want to go. I last ran 10k in May.
Although it was 10.00 before I finally got out, it was nice and quiet as I headed east along the prom and then up to the Haying Island Ferry pontoon. I was amazed by the number of starlings in that area, and I could hear them squabbling over Coach Bennett and my music. I doubled back and ran past the Southsea Beach Cafe where UpTheStanley was waiting on his bike having been to the gym. I said I’d run a bit further so he went off to buy his paper and we agreed to meet back there later. I carried on west to the parkrun start and then turned back again towards the cafe. 9.16k run in 73 minutes, which is slower than race pace but perfect for training. I’m well chuffed with that.
I liked this picture which I came across this weekend. Sorry it doesn’t feature any men but it does apply to you all.
Happy Running everyone.

We all have our own pace Sola and your pace is right for you. I was quite pleased when UTS went to the gym this morning as I do get dragged along a bit.
I think that you are entitled to feel smug after that run Dexy5; just what you needed. I don’t know why people feel the need to make comments about people who choose to run. They should be encouraging. One neighbour used to “pull my leg” regularly. One day he said we should have a race….I said 10 miles or HM ?……..🤐 silence is golden 😁
I love that response Beachcomber. I was wearing my Great South Run shirt this morning and I came across a few runners a number of times so distances are being increased all over.
I was offered a discount on GSR entry this morning but I’m sticking to volunteering this year.
Oh, I thought that you were running. Still, good to have friends amongst the volunteers. 🙂 That means a pre run hangover isn’t a problem for you! I guess that my shirt and number will arrive soon. Maybe a long slow run is needed tomorrow!
After doing it 2 years I thought I’d give the distance prep a miss this year BC. While everyone else went for the early bird tickets immediately after the last one, I signed up as volunteer to stop me doing it again. I will have the worst case of FOMO when the time comes. I hope my volunteering gives me a job where I can cheer you all on, rather than watching runners’ bags in a tent for hours.
You won’t get your shirt until the race is over but the excitement when that number arrives is second to none!
There is a degree of unwelcome pressure in getting yourself ready to run on a fixed date. I much prefer to do things the other way around i.e. do a long run when I feel like it. I suppose being a toilet monitor is the worst volunteering job 🙂. I was thinking about the GNR when I mentioned the shirt, but of course I would have worn my charity shirt for the run last year, hence I got it in advance. Starting feel a tingle of alarm 😬
Yes I know what you mean but you will be so well prepared for the GSR and I’m sure you will love it Beachcomber. There will be so many VRBs to share the experience with too. 🦋 🦋 🦋 will disappear once on the start line.
😱 Loo monitor- hadn’t even though about that one! No I think it is self-regulated and contractors will do the maintenance bit.
Great photo Dexy, all shapes and sizes are welcomed at all running events from Parkrun to the London or any marathon, well done on your run today, I wish you well for your New Forest 10K in 19 days.
