Inspire me with your socks/small kit items!

I’ve got a birthday coming next month and the in-laws like hints for presents. Running kit is my current go to. I’m quite keen on a nice pair of running socks. Anyone have any favourites? Any other items that might be on your wish list? I usually stick to a budget of about £15/£20. I would be thrilled with some more running undies but that’s not a conversation I can imagine having with my mother in law!!!

Thanks in advance!

Although I've not yet tried them I love the concept of Monkey Sox MissUnderstanding (monkeysox.org/)

That looks like such a great charity. Thanks!

An item you can never have too many of is a Buff. Round your neck in winter, round your wrist to mop your face in summer, or even as a hat. Different companies sell them, but I think the original Buff works best for me.

I’ve never considered a buff! Will investigate… Thanks for the tip!

Hi MissUnderstanding Happy Birthday when it comes! I can recommend Ben Parkes wraps/ buffs: benparkes.com/products/ben-... had all 168 out of 168 5 star reviews and they are made in the UK. Very versatile piece of kit which can be used all year round and is within your budget. Made of super soft material with lovely designs.

🤗

Thanks for the birthday wishes…you’re officially the first! I’ve got about a month but the in laws are always on it with presents (feel v lucky!) so I’m being super organised in asking early. Those buffs look brilliant. Thanks!

I've many varying brands of socks in the running drawer, some supermarket ones are brilliant budget socks, even the dreaded sports chain store 😬🤐, the socks are ok, then the posh socks are either by ... stance or injinji like little gloves for your toes, and a complete bugger to get on quickly 😂, super long calf compression ones that remove the need for my compression sleeves, and the latest ones are some quite snazzy Hilly mid ankle ones 👍.

Definitely slip a mention for a buff/snood a brilliant go to piece of running kit....

Toe socks! I’ll need some thinking to get on with those! I have enough problems with regular socks. Some nice ideas though-thanks!

I swear by toe socks. I was wearing them for a good couple of years before I tried toe shoes.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to nowster

I’m amazed how popular they seem to be! Mind officially blown.

Toe socks stop your toes rubbing together during a run. They're also good at helping prevent athlete's foot. In winter you can wear normal socks over the top of them, too.

They are a faff to get on, but it gets easier with practice.

I love Rockay running socks. Last forever and help to prevent blisters. Their website is currently being upgraded (rockay.com) but you can order on Amazon

Brilliant-I’ll look at those. Thanks!

Yes, ever since running birthdays and Christmasses are again like they used to be when I was a kid!

I’d vote for:

- injinji toe socks

- a good running cap

- yoga and stretching peripherals

Yoga stuff

And if money reaches that far, a pair of end-of-the-line Lucy Locket leggings ( locketloves.com/collections... )

Now a cap is something I keep thinking about buying and then forgetting about. That’s a very good idea. I like the idea of yoga kit too. Those leggings are gorgeous…I might just buy some of those myself! Thanks!!

If you like those leggings take a look at the BeYourHappyPlace ones (cheaper too) and FunkyFit also I have a leggings addiction and currently have over 60 pairs of leggings, capris, shorts , with cats on and dragons and sloths and butterflies/moths … christmas ones.. Halloween ones … I think I need to find a branch of Leggings Anonymous 🫣

I love my Feetures running socks. Or maybe a running belt for phone, keys etc?

Should have said mine is from Lulu lemon.

A trip to lululemon is dangerous for me. I really like their stuff. Only allowed in during sale times!! See also Sweaty Betty. A running belt is a nice idea. I’ve always crammed things in pockets but as I’m starting to go further, there’s not space for any snacks. Thanks!

I know what you mean, dangerous territory! My belt was a present so I didn't have to enter into temptation! Happy birthday when it comes 🎂

I love the hygge head bands (can be worn as a buff too) and their sunglasses. They really don’t slip when you run! hyggebands.com

I have loads of pairs of More Mile socks too and wouldn’t dare try a different brand now. No rubbing, no blisters, they stay put and they’re in pretty colours. 😍

I love my Injinji toe socks- never had a running blister since I got these 4 years ago. I also had some Karrimor toes socks which were my fav but they don’t do them anymore 😪. And maybe a Flipbelt to pop your phone, keys, lip balm, tissues etc in when you run??

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to limberlou

Maybe I need to try these toe socks! I might need to set my alarm early to get them on…

A flip belt...it's comfy & fab for carrying keys, phone etc while running. My Mum bought mine but I'm thinking she said it was around £20.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Run46

I’ve just been looking at one of these and wondering how I didn’t know about them before! The solution to lack of suitable leggings pockets! Great idea.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10 in reply to MissUnderstanding

Mine meant I could stop wearing my phone in an arm band...desperately needed an alternative after the Velcro came undone a couple of times after a couple of particularly sweaty runs 😅Only issue is it can ride up to the slimmest part of the waist sometimes & is warm on hot days but once I'd excepted it sat where it wanted I got used to it & stopped noticing.
