This is for anyone who is new to Bridge to 10K. Or anyone who wants to get to 10K for the first time.
I have been running for over 4 years now. But since Covid-19 began and road races, parkrun etc was canceled I have been slowly losing motivation and it has gone to the point now where I have not run for a month due to work and being away with family for a couple of weeks on a Holiday.
But I am back now and tomorrow I will be back out running again. It is going to take me some time to get back to running 5K comfortably before moving onto 10K.
So if you are consolidating and getting used to running 5K before moving onto 10K please reply below if you would like to join me. Perhaps we could get a little run group consolidating 5K and moving along towards 10K together. Anyone is welcome to join in.

I’ve entered a 13K Mountain Race in November. 😂 I can’t run 5K at the moment but I’ll get there. I need to have something to aim for so as to be motivated. Your welcome to join in, although it may be a month before I’m ready to move onto increasing distance from 5K.
Funnily enough just before I read this post, I was plotting a route where I cross a bridge then park and start running. Need to adjust it somewhat though as I could do the same distance run and end on a beach with a gin tent if I plan it correctly 🤣
Hi Damien, I may join you in your quest! I’ve only done 3 5k runs this year so far and motivation is pretty low so I could do with a helping hand! Although you’ll be much faster and will no doubt power off before long ! I was thinking of going back to the later weeks of C25K to start me off; it may be a while before I’m doing 5k, never mind comfortably but I’ll let you know how I get on!
Great and thanks. We will keep each other motivated. I’m way way off being able to manage 5K. I’m like you going to do some of the C25K weeks starting tomorrow with week1 run1. The next one I’ll try week 2 run 1 until I can’t do it anymore.
Although I never repeated the whole course of C25K, after a short break from running during the winter months of 2018 /19 I did rerun run 1 of week 1 on a Monday, run 1 of week 2 on a Wednesday and run 1 of week 3 on a Saturday and so on until runs 1,2, and 3 of week 9 a few weeks later, unless you have been off running altogether for more than 3/6 months or more I don't think that you need to rerun every run of C25K.
I'm one of the oddballs for whom not having parkrun has meant my Saturday runs have just kept getting longer (along with average distance overall). I suspect that once they eventually restart up here, I'm going to have to run a 10k once I get home from Park run just to feel I've actually done enough.
Hi damienair I graduated a few weeks ago from c25k I completed 5km in 31,36 on my graduation run and having been running for 30 mins twice a week since. Not sure if I want to work up to a 10km would be quite happy to get to the point I was running 5km in 30 minutes on a regular basis, a group to keep me accountable sounds perfect I think since graduating I miss the weekly goals, improvements and accountability.
Fantastic. I’ll add you to the list. The best way to get faster at 5K is being able to run 10K. I started first and my 5K time was 39 minutes. I managed over a couple of years to bring that down to 25:36, but by getting comfortable at 10K helped greatly and also helped with endurance. Like you my favourite distance is 5K and I have no interest in running much more than 10K. You are doing great and your well ahead of me at the moment.
Thank you, I have read that about running further to get faster. I was thinking about starting the 5k in 30 min plan that roseabi posted but I was just concentrating on consolidating my 30 minutes first. This will be my 4th week of consolidation starting tomorrow so I'll think about starting the plan after that.
Hi Damienair please count me in! I’ve been slacking albeit the other week I did my local 5k and enjoyed it! I’ve joined a slimming club and found group motivation works for me! I even inspired a lady to start C25k whose lost 5 stone ! This week I’ll give her this forum details too ! I decided before reading your post to start today so you’ve affirmed my decision!
Excellent. I’m back on a weight loss plan too. I lost 3 stone over 2 years ago and got really fit. Now I have put back on two of those stone. I only have to look sideways at food and I’ll put on weight. I am so unfit too. But I’ve done it before and I can do it again. So we can all do this together.
Got a bit of FOMO I must admit Damien! Enjoy your happy group. I do love an HU group. You’ll all nail those runs over the Bridge! Go everyone! ❤️🏃♀️🏃♀️❤️
Hi, please count me in! I finished the c25k program a couple of months ago and had set myself the challenge of the Birmingham 10k for October - however "training" has ground to a halt in the recent heat and the race has been postponed until May, so would really love some motivation through here🙂
I am new to running, 5K just completed and looking to move up. Need motivation so would love to join. Struggling with the heat at the moment so some extra motivation would be great.
Hi Damien, what a fab idea. I started C25k at lockdown 1 and made it through. But since then I’ve either been not progressing and recently, actually going backwards.
TBH I think it’s mostly because I’ve got no one to run with, so I’m finding it really boring
Hi. As a fairly recent Couch25k graduate, my 5k includes my warm up and warm down walks, but I do push a little further sometimes, including an 8k with one extra walk uphill, as well as the warm up and cool down. I've also signed up for a 10k women's mini-marathon in September, which I walked in previous years, but plan to run as much as possible of this year. So your group might be the motivation to get me to work towards it. Thank you.
Joining your group sounds very tempting, but bit worried that I am no where near (or ever have been) running 5k in anything like 30 mins. I’ve started Ju-Ju’s timed plan which has been good motivation.
I’ll add you to the list. Don’t worry. This is not a speed plan. You can run at any pace which suits you. It will be a nice gentle 5K to 10K plan. I need to get back to 5K first so your already well ahead of me.
I'm in a similar place, if a bit behind you. I've only done 2 5k runs, at ~42 and ~38 mins, and that was on flatish ground. I think that a 60 min target will be more achievable for me too. Hopefully, see you there...
Thank you Damien for setting this up. I'd like to give this a try as I need motivation.I'm a slow runner who can mostly manage a 5k, but not sure if I0k is possible for me as an old gal! On the other hand, if I jump in maybe others similar to me will also have a go and we can motivate each other!
I ran in a storm yesterday, got soaked through to my bones but thoroughly enjoyed it - 5.1k in 41mins. This was a better time for me, I must have plugged in to all that stormy energy. ⚡
Well done on your run yesterday. Great to have you join in. You can definitely do 10K. We will get there together. Step by step, it will be a gentle plan. You’ll do it.
I’d love to join - it’s over 3 weeks since I was running - feeling a bit sluggish now! I was on the Ju Ju 10k magic plan but only got as far as week 3 (39 minutes). Would love to build up again and reach my target. Out for 20 minutes today.
Count me in! I've been consolidating for a while, and the last two weeks I've extended my 3rd run of the week to be a 5k. As a slow runner, I'm aiming towards 60 mins running rather than 10k as an intermediate challenge, as it seems much more manageable. I also need to work in some hills - my choices of local routes are almost entirely flat (old railway line) or very steep (moorland tors), and the recent heat has meant I've stayed in the shade on flat ground. So one of the shorter runs a week I'm going to put in some hills, probably trying out jeffing to start with.
Fantastic. Great to have you join in. I’m a long way off my pre Covid-19 fitness levels. So it is going to be a long road. We will all do it together. Baby steps. 60 minutes is perfect.
Greta idea damienair Please include me too. I have graduated to 60 mins but nothing above 7.8km at present and am nursing a hip issue that has meant I have stepped back a little from adding distance presently. However I am following a Mapmyrun programme improving my 5K time and am enjoying it. I hope this means I shall then be stronger for the 10k step which is my dream... Happy to join your gang!
Hi there 👋. Please count me in! I've been struggling to get out in the heat but think it's now become an excuse, so a bit of collective motivation to get back to going out 3 times a week would be fantastic 🏃♀️. Thanks!
Great. Your in good company. We will motivate each other. I’ve really been struggling since first lockdown. I miss parkrun and races to train for. I’ll send out another post later.
Hi Damienair, reading all these comments, there’s a lot of us feeling the same way, I completed couch to 5k back in December, I am also a slow runner average about 36-38mins. I just cannot manage this heat though, due to age maybe!and not an early riser to go early.
Need some motivation or fear I may have to wait for much cooler weather to run again!
Hi please count me in. I am running about 3 times a week but always find it tough and am very slow. I do 5k in around 44 mins and can't seem to get any faster. I've done a couple of longer runs but again at snail pace. Joining this group will hopefully help me increase my fitness and motivate me to trying to improve both distance and speed. Thanks
Hi, please count me in too. I've just restarted with a couple of 2k runs after more than two months off due to injury. Previously got to 8k (60mins). Struggling to feel motivated so really glad to see your post.
What a great idea! Can I join your gang please? I too have let my running slip over the last six weeks particularly, it has been so hot here. I have substituted cycling,(something I have not done for 30 years) for running, which I am enjoying, but would like to get back to running again. I might be a bit behind you all as the weather will take a while to cool down, but walking/running sounds like a good idea to start!
