We were still in Brighton this morning so decided to go left at Asda along the seafront rather than right for the Coastal Path. I didn't realise that this would mean a steep hill as the very first part of the run. On the upside, at least the legs were fresh!
There was a fantastic path through the shingle for the first km or so, it's sort of plastic decking so has a bit more give than the road. It came to an abrupt halt by the office of the Volks Railway so we had to go onto the road, dodging between pavement and cycle lane though we didn't see many bikes.
Our original plan was 5k but it was hot and we had a train to catch later on so settled for 4. We reached the statue of a runner and turned back, which seemed appropriate.
On the very last bit as we ran down the hill towards Asda I think I landed a bit awkwardly on my left foot. Ouch, the familiar white hot stabbing pains in my knee. Maybe I should get a proper support for it. I had to stop running and limp for a bit but it sorted itself out so I carried on for a couple of hundred more metres and managed 4.17 km in all.
I don't usually look at the NRC app as I'm running but had it in my hand as I'd paused it when the pain hit. When I restarted there was a huge discrepancy between what my watch was showing and what NRC said - Garmin said well over 8mins/km while NRC was under 7 mins/km. I think the Garmin was more feasible though I was near a multistorey carpark so this may have been messing with the GPS signal. Or maybe it was NRC trying to make me feel better about myself
