I did my last run on Friday which was a steady recovery run following my previous intervals run a day or 2 earlier .
The run on Friday was steady but I did feel an occasional discomfort in my back , nothing painfull , just unusual, this came and went a couple of times during the run.
I finished the run , came home and stretched and all felt fine .
Later in the afternoon it felt uncomfortable in certain positions .
I was planning on a long run today (15k)
And was all set for this morning, everything charged , fully hydrated and a few snacks ready and waiting however late last night I had my doubts over my back .
I massaged the affected area (not very easy) with Krรคuterhof pferdebalsam (fantastic product!) And went to bed .
When I woke at 5:45 this morning I thought it was ok untill I got out of bed , then again I noticed in certain positions it was quite uncomfortable!
So decision made ! There will be no run today !
Although Misty is still undecided!
So I will give it a few days and see how it progresses.
I'll try gentle yoga stretches in the next few days if it's pain free .
If not then it may be a call to the physio ๐

So sorry Ian that you did not get your 15K run today because your back feels very uncomfortable in certain positions, a very wise decision, I just hope that it won't be long until your back is no longer sore and you will get that 15K run.
Thanks Al, it's disappointing but definitely the right decision, the run will be there when I'm ready , it will probably put me back a bit but I'm not in any hurry
This morning after yesterday's parkrun I went a short bike ๐ฒ ride, tomorrow l'll be going a walk around the loch that I ran run 3 of week 7 of C25K 4 years ago and on Wednesday I will attempt to run 10 miles which will be my first 10 miles run of this year.
Oh, no! I hope this back problem eases quickly. Definitely a good decision: itโs not a state to be heading on a 15k run. Itโs such an anticlimax when oneโs all ready and excited for a step-up like this (the 15k) and then to be halted. But you have a clear and positive plan, which is good. Misty looks a bit disappointed, tooโฆ or has she just spotted something moving outside? Hard to tell. Weโve got fox cubs activeโฆ and weโre trying to steer the cats away from being too curious about these new arrivals to the London gardens-jungle.
Sorry to hear about your sore back, but a wise choice to pull back and rest for a few days. Interestingly, it was at the 15k mark on the NRC HM plan that I started to feel a few niggles too - all those speed runs can be pretty intense! Hopefully after a few days rest you will be right as rain and ready for that 15k ๐๐ป๐
That's pretty much what I'm doing (after a bit of a break when James Dunne wore me out ๐) - it feels much more manageable and I think I'm sort of back on track, although no longer sticking rigidly to the plan. After all, I'm in no rush. Hope your back is easing?
Thatโs such a shame but definitely a good call. Itโs frustrating when we have a run in our head and itโs all planned out! Perhaps a nice warm bath and a cup of tea will help. I hope it improves and that you can get it in as a Jubilee run! And Misty may have come to a decision by then ๐.
A cat after my own heart that Misty! I had some mega snoozes yesterday afternoon ๐ค. I am totally ignoring the fact itโs probably a sign of getting older ๐คฃ. Really hope the back gets better ๐.
Aww, so sorry youโre not able to get out in this beautiful sunshine today Ian..very sensible of you thoughโฆdonโt need anymore damage than whatโs there alreadyโฆyouโll have to enjoy the sunshine in another way x ๐
Definitely the right decision, as frustrating as it may be. Hope your back gets better soon. In the meantime some cuddles with Misty might do the trick ๐ฅฐ
Oh no! Sending you get well wishes! Those witches must be at it again! (I did tell you, didnโt I? that a certain type of back pain in Germany is called โHexenschuss: shot by a witch!โ)
When my back was feeling niggly, I came across this video. Itโs pretty intense and earnest, very focussed on helping the lower back area. It works so effectively for me that I now have the page open on my phone all the time, so that I can spend the 12 mins it takes whenever necessary. Might be worth a try? youtu.be/4BOTvaRaDjI
Oh dear I hope your back is feeling better soon. Misty is just sitting and contemplating, mine bit me this morning, he hasnโt done that for weeks I wasnโt best pleased to go to work with great bloody gashes on my hand again, sure you donโt want another cat? Iโll post him
