This run almost did t happen. Ivw had a super busy week and I’ve got a few more of them coming up with a few pinch points happening all together. My to do list is currently in five sections. The plan was to fit in an 8km run but if just didn’t happen. There was a small window before tea…only 40 minutes including ten minutes walking and I’m definitely not fast enough to cover 8km in that amount of time. I was in a right grump about not having enough time to do the run I wanted but my rational brain took over and forced me out of the door to “just run something”. I am so glad I did!
Getting out of house was a bit of a faff-it was sunnier than expected so that meant finding sunglasses and changing my long sleeved t-shirt for a short one. Good decision. I started on my usual warm up walk past the cows (pictured) debating my route. There’s a lovely hill to run up and over. It would require pushing on a bit to get it done in the time I had but that was perfect for the slightly on edge mood. What’s better for busting stress than attacking a hill the.ln enjoying the payoff on the downhill?! This route is such a good one because you get about ten minutes of gentle rolling up and down before the climb so you’re both warmed up and still fresh,
It’s just wonderful when you have one of those unexpected runs where you feel really fit and full of energy. Maybe it’s because I’ve been wanting to get out all week but haven’t and was extra excited to finally be running. Maybe it was the perfect weather with the perfect kit (never usually happens to me!). Maybe it was a few days rest. It might even have been the strength training I’ve been really focussing on and having run a decent 10k two weeks ago. Whatever it was…I absolutely loved that run. I fell into a rhythm quickly. The pace felt like I was working but in a sustainable and fun challenging way. The milestones along the run just keep coming up and I was thinking “surely this should feel harder?!!”.
Most of my runs aren’t like this. They’re usually fine and I like doing them. Some are awful. Very occasionally I’ll have one like today and it’s enough to keep me going through the boring miles and the hard miles. Can you tell I’ve got a bit of a buzz still on?
In the end I covered a pretty quick 5km but that didn’t really matter. It was just about getting out and doing something positive amongst a whole load of stress where I just felt like I was free and flying. I’ll have some more of those please! Hopefully next week I’ll get my 8km done but for now, I’m very happy
