Hard work today

Woke slightly earlier than usual after barely 7 hours sleep, just about enough. I didn't check my 'Body Battery' but I suspect it may have been on the low side. Too bad, we wanted to get out early for a run as we aimed to catch a ferry to the next island by 10.30 am.

Some days everything just comes together. Today wasn't one. I skimped on my dynamic stretches and the weather was warm, probably around 15C. Combined with a very lazy day yesterday, mostly spent overeating, my legs weren't cooperating once I started to run.

About 1km in my calves felt so tight I had to lean against a eucalyptus tree and stretch. My husband didn't stop and soon was a dot in the distance. I carried on, having a 10 second walk every few minutes and eventually he reappeared, running towards me. I gladly turned homeward.

I forced myself to continue to the final uphill section. This last bit was once again the fastest of the run. I stopped when I reached the top but I was so close to 4km that I decided to restart and get to the end of the road, thankfully fairly level, then turned back to complete the distance.

After this the rest of the day went to plan. I didn't have time for breakfast but had an amazing Greek yogurt with pistachio ice cream while waiting for the ferry, and discovered that my brother in law had bought me a chocolate and strawberry ice cream as well as he'd heard me say I wanted something. Three scoops! Anyone would think I was on holiday :)

Here's some Greek spring flowers to brighten your day :)

What a stunning place. Sounds like a brilliant holiday. Pistachio ice cream is my absolute favourite and I love the idea of having it for a late pseudo brunch.

Enjoy the rest of your time away. Running on holiday is serious dedication to the cause. Super impressed here!

Thank you! I've only been running for a year and so am worried that if I stop for holidays I won't start again. So far, I've run in Germany, Poland, Russia and Greece! Have to confess though that I didn't run when I was touring the south coast of England because I forgot to bring my trainers, oops 🤪Holiday runs are great :)

Wow, you do a lot of travelling 😎The run may not have been the best but you got it done & defo deserved the ice cream...Greek yogurt & pistachio sounds amazing! 😋

I hope your calves are forgiving when you wake in the morning 😉

We've not been anywhere since late 2019 (like everyone else!) but we've been catching up on visiting family since restrictions lifted, which has been lovely.

I think I deserved the ice cream too :)

ps thankfully no aches today

Well done for running regardless! I felt pretty much like this on all of my runs in Portugal last October, just really heavy legs etc. I blamed it on general inactivity and good grub which was pretty much most of the time 🤣. Looks absolutely stunning. 😊😊😊

Only got another couple of days sadly, Sunday will be my last running day...unless of course I decide I need another recovery day ;)

A run is a run, so well run! And even more brilliantly run, because it felt hard!

And what an environment to run in? Lovely pic.

Thanks, I comforted myself that Coach Bennett would probably say 'you ended as a better runner than you started' 😂

Well done! I love running when I'm on holiday but more often than not I end up doing long walks instead of runs despite my best intentions! That ice-cream sounds delicious! Enjoy the rest of your hols 🍨😎🏖️

Thanks, I've done quite a few long walks too, thanks to the cooler weather we've had until today.

I'm off to Sweden on Sunday.. New regulations mean I'm only taking a small backpack I can shove under the seat( yes, Ryan air)...no surprise that the only clothes I'm taking are trainers, running leggings and gloves....oh and a spare pair of socks and pants...got my priorities right??

It's amazing what you can fit in a bag if you get your priorities right. I bought a bag off Amazon that's the absolute maximum for Ryanair carryon and it holds a lot more than you'd think! Have a lovely time.

Thank-you. It feels quite stressful till I'm sitting on that plane..

What an absolutely beautiful photo. That scenery along with 3 scoops of ice cream (never underestimate the wonderfulness of ice cream) makes it a day where EVERYTHING comes together! I'm not kidding. Sounds like pure joy to me.
