5.5k hard work

I did the 5.5k run this morning but I feel like the bridge programme is too hard for me yet.

I had to walk a briefly a few times. Did 5k okay and intervals for 2.5k but it was hard today. Not sure if it’s psychological or just need to try again.

Anyway don’t want to be despondent, this not me, it’s a glorious crisp morning and no work so now off with hubby for dog walk 😊

Thanks I don’t really beat myself up as loving running just don’t want to spoil that happy feeling. May try this one again 😊

Honestly, don't worry about the stats... I put my tracker on the other night but had a seperate music player and paid no attention and enjoyed just running... went beyond what I had aimed to do 😂 I don't get hung up on the figures and find it more enjoyable... only you know how it felt to make the judgement about repeating it x

I do that too. I set my phone recording the stats then put it away.

I listen to music, nature and walk if I have to which is rare now but if I'm extending my runs I expect it. Most of all, if I'm extending a run, I start slower and often slow down more as I run. I can work on pacing some other time.

I just want to keep looking at the stats if it's out so i just let it do its thing and go quicker as I am not distracted x

The only time I looked at my tracker is when my phone said I had done 5k as I wanted to be sure I did the 5.5k. It's been helpful to post the stats as I've now had some really helpful advice. Thank you really appreciate it 😊

You did brilliantly Carolyn..the longer the run, you can go much slower. You did 5.5k in 37 minutes with some walking...it takes me over 40 mins to do 5k😆... and for a long run I start really steady, and you find the longer you run the better your breathing gets. 20 to 30 minutes into a run is when I feel most relaxed now.

I would think you can go onto week 2, but instead of running fast, practice a nice steady slower pace so you can run for longer.😊xxx

To "learn" how to run easily and slowly (your NIKO NIKO pace - look it up) , walk on a treadmill and keep increasing the speed slightly until you feel that you cannot walk any faster - then start "running" at that same pace . :)

You did great! I just checked my 5.5k paces and you were a full 2 minutes faster than me. I would listen to the advice from the very experienced folks on here - slow and steady is really good, and I find it’s when I hit that natural pace that my attention moves away from gasping for breath and my mind drifts into relax mode and then I truly am ‘in the running moment’. Good luck with this week’s runs - remember, we’re all in this together!

Thank you, I will try going slower. I only set my Fitbit going so it tells me when I've reach the km as I haven't really worked out measured runs. It was easier when Mr Smooth told me I had so many more minutes to go.

I ended the day having "run" my 5.5k and then walked another 15k total. A busy day off work 😊

Your pace is amazing...Im doing 9min a km.. but i felt this week harder to run..my breathing, my body....not sure why..but we did it. Well done. keep going and posting here..We realise we are not alone.

Reading the helpful replies I think I am going too fast for longer runs so I am definitely going to slow it down. Maybe then I won't look so red when I've finished too! 😉

I use a GPS watch and never look at it until I turn it off at the end of the run - I always plot my course on gb.mapometer.com/

I don't know which plan you are following or if there is actually suggested pace, but something in the region of 80% of your running should be at an easy pace.

It may surprise you how slow you should be running.

Thank you, I’m trying the bridge to 10k and haven’t found anything about pace, hence my post. Everyone here is so helpful and I will definitely take any advice. 😊

Keep going, I have finished WK 1 of the bridge and found it tough. However I did not do the shorter run thinking I needed to build up stamina( Wrong) so when I did the 5.5K I struggled at the very end. I am going to do WK 2 started this morning with a Parkrun and see how I get on.

Thank you I'm going to start w2 on Monday as I did a long run yesterday and lots of walking too so taking a good rest before 6k (very slow) run. Good luck with your week 2

This is a great time - your pace and time is almost exactly as my 5.5k yesterday! I tried the 30-20-1O technique in the 2.5k and found it exhausting. But, I think it helped me carry on that extra bit for the 5.5k. Keep going & don't worry about the odd walk!

Run at conversational pace some say 180 less your age which is about 130 ... it's very very slow BUT it's the land of almost no injuries
