So. Having stopped running mid February due to an injury of some form. Aching pain in left hip, transmitting down outside of thigh (IT band?) into knee and also outside of shin. Today I tried a short run given most symptoms had gone away. I ran a short 3k. Starting the run I had some aching pain in the shin, this diminished but did not go away. Having stopped I can feel an ache in hip, knee and shin. Any thoughts, what should I do? ☹️

First thing to say is don't run with pain .Did you have this diagnosed in February?

If not then I would suggest an appointment with a sports physio to get a diagnosis and recovery plan as no one here on the forum can diagnose it

Doctor Google is often wrong on these matters. You need someone to prod and poke and feel for anomalies, and that's usually the domain of a sports physio.

Just to add to this. I had a doubly sprained ankle back in September 2020, injured on my graduation run from C25K.

I tried all sorts of things to fix it myself: compression sleeves, elevation, etc. Nothing was fixing it, and even walking was becoming very painful to do.

In desperation I booked a physio consultation. Best thing I could have done in the situation. The lady physio prodded and poked and had me gritting my teeth in agony, but afterwards I felt better, and it started to heal fairly quickly.

She also gave me exercises to do. I did them religiously. On the follow-up visit she was pleased that she could see that I'd done my homework.

I was running again about two weeks later. Very gently running very short run/walk intervals, but I was running.

Thank you that’s the good practical experience advice I was seeking. I’ve been out of the country since shortly after it occurred and had hoped it would settle. Will book an appointment for my return. Meanwhile back to box sets 😊

Oh no. Well if you are on a pause, a good thing might be to strengthen all your leg and knee muscles for when you get back to running.

If you hop over to our Strength and Flex forum, you’ll find plenty of stuff .

See

healthunlocked.com/strength...

There is even a folder for injury related or targeted workouts.

Keep on keeping on!

Thank you for all your advice. When I got back to UK in April I consulted the osteopath resident at my gym. He diagnosed a couple of things stemming from a back injury that would present the symptoms and after a course of treatment and more supportive shoes I’m going to start up again. Let’s see what happens…
