So I decided to give myself a goal this am .. I went out at 10.07 and told myself I couldn’t go home until pop master on Radio 2 had finished ! It worked and I jogged 5.5 ks.. so after nearly a year of finishing c25k I’m still on it !! Yay .. have a happy week everyone.
Pop Master: So I decided to give myself a goal... - Bridge to 10K
Pop Master
It's nice to read a "still running" post like this :)I was doing a bit of catching up after a four month absence from the Forum, and it was kind of a shock to realise how many I "knew" over the years here suddenly dissapear - and really puzzling is, the vast majority of their last posts give absolutely no hint that they will be.
Seems like one day they just stop running, or at least very abruptly quot posting.
Anyway, enjoyed this post and wishing you many more happy miles
I know what you mean .. I struggle to keep going as am not a spring chicken anymore and I did query the other day with a nurse at my doctors as to whether I was too old but she said you’re never too old to jog/run and how good it is for bone strengthening as one ages .. so I’ll keep going until I fall over .. been there though and done that too 😂 if I can do 10k that would be a real achievement for me but slowly does it
It took me about 14 weeks to graduate, but once week 5 was done I kind of knew I could finish the whole programme. However - it never ever seemed like a possibility even that I would do 10k for quite a while even after 5ks became 'comfortable'. But, bit by bit I increased my distances, got to around seven or eight K and then one morning everything just felt 'right and good' and I went for the 10k and did it Ten milers the following year, first HM the year after that, and a hard-won FM the year after that
It kind of gets addictive LOL. The fitness and stamina definitely increase even if 'speed' remains elusive - I think I am actually a bit slower now than at the end of my first year but that isn't a problem as I was very slow to begin with compared to 99% of people I still have an amazing time at Events though - and in a way when you don't have to worry about your place it's even more fun. Last Ten Miler I was in there was a girl really struggling in the last mile, it was her first longer event and boy she was hurting. I ran with her and encouraged her, and then just before the finish line I stopped, bowed, and waved her ahead in as gentlemanly a fashion as my own tired ass could manage The onlookers clapped and cheered for her and I got a few compliments but as I said there was really no difference to me if I finished in the 357th place or the 358th - it was simply something I could do that added to mine and another runners enjoyment of the day
Take it slow and steady, keep it enjoyable on at least some level and always do the hardest distance of all - from the sofa to the front door. Once you are outside and starting your run, it will go as it will go
Wishing you many happy miles in your future
Well done on your run and getting back into the swing of things. . You’re never tool old to run jog. Listened to pop master in lockdown quite a bit, think I would be useless 😀
