No run today

Hiya,

I had done my Start to Run session 3 on Thursday and had planned my 4th session today. But it won't happen.

For starters I apparently ate too much lactose yesterday and my bowels are very upset. I am a bit lactose-intolerant and the combination of a non-vegan diet-shake for lunch with a custard fill pastry in the evening apparently tipped the balance. I really feel weak and painful now, as always after a lactose problem.

And in combination there is a load of stress here too. One of my kitties had a very heavy seizure Friday at 4 am (first time) and this morning at 9 am a second (slightly less heavy) seizure.

She has several health issues (chronic inflamed stomach, chronic pancreatitis and B12 deficiency). The vet now found a week or 2 ago that she has hyperthyroïd and she is on heavy meds now for this.

We don't know if the seizures are related to the meds or if she suddenly got epileptic or something else still. The vet does not know at this moment either.

She is 16, but we are far from ready to say goodbye (our cats are our 'children' and she in particular). So we are in a load of stress. Also continuously scared if another seizure will happen.

The treadmill is on another floor (not in the same apartment) and we now want to stay with her as much as possible. In any case 1 of us will always stay with her at all times (literally in the same room). At this moment she is more important than running, so...

Fingers crossed that I will have more happy news next time. Cheers, Evy

That's really tough Bs, how difficult to have your much loved cat poorly. Runs can wait, they won't disappear, much more important to be where you need to be right now. Take care

I'm so sorry to read this 🤗 I know how horrible it is when our pets are ill and seizures are scary to see, I had a pup years ago who kept having them.I hope you feel better as the day goes on, my son is lactose intolerant so I know how unpleasant that can be.

I hope the vet gets to the bottom of the problem soon.

The treadmill will be there when you're ready.

Look after yourself x

Sorry to hear about your cat, hoping the vet can work things out and get to the bottom of things, I am sure you will adjust your routine in time, I am lactose intolerant and know what you mean, some days can be better than others but it does leave you feeling drained when you get it not quite right!

Hoping for a more relaxing week for you ahead

Oh take care and I hope your cat will be ok. As for dairy, I gave it up several years ago, but can tolerate a bit of cheese. I wouldn't be able to tolerate milk though, it tastes vile to me now!

in reply toRoxdog

Thanks. As for the milk and such I don't have it in the worst form. So I can handle cheese for example. But I can't handle a glass of milk or some yoghurt 2 days in a row.

I now use lactose free milk and cream and soya yoghurt. But I was not aware that the diet-shake was so rich in lactose. I do have pills I can take against lactose, so going to use these to use up the shakes. And afterwards go back to vegan shakes.

I was going to suggest lactase pills, but I see you already have some.

Cheese is mainly fat and protein. It's the way our ancestors consumed their milk. The ability to process lactose beyond infanthood is a relatively recent development amongst certain populations, and notably less common in the East. You'd probably be OK with butter too.

So sorry to read this. My husband is dairy and gluten free and I know he finds it very tough to stick to the diet. We are cat lovers and have 2 and together with our dog, they are like our children.

Put running aside and don't beat yourself up about it, you have much on your plate. I do hope your kitty will be ok. No matter how old they are, it's never easy to lose them.

in reply toMarvincat

Thanks, the lactose I don't mind that much. I have been heavy intolerant for 2 years after having to take antibiotics. Could not even eat a chocolate. But it passed and I am now light intolerant. Meaning, I can eat cheese and butter and chocolate and biscuits. But I can't eat / drink regular milk or yoghurt 2 days in a row or 2 times on the same day or so. I solve it by using lactose-free milk and soya yoghurt. I just wasn't aware that the diet-shake has so much lactose in it. Stupid of me, but wise lesson learned!

As for the kitty, she now has had 3 seizures (this night her third). It might be related to the heavy medication she takes since roughly a week against hyperthyroid. Might also be due to high blood pressure, we don't know. And the vets aren't much help either, I think they put her on a too high dose of the meds to begin with. It's just so scary to see these seizures. Like with you, our cats are our (my parents and mine) children. And this one even more so. She is a Sphynx and they are really like little babies...
