Painful heel / tendon

Hello. I’ve been happily running around 7k most days for the last few years without issue. Last week whilst putting my walking boots on I felt a twinge on my heel around the tendon. It is painful to walk on wearing shoes but doesn’t hurt at all when walking bare foot or with flip flops. I can support my own weight and stand on top toes so don’t think anything is broken. It has a weird sensation as if something isn’t right - like a torn feeling. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you recover? I’ve looked on Google but that is just a minefield plus I can’t get into my doctors to get it checked out.

I haven’t run on it since but have done a few cross training sessions which didn’t give me any pain

Thank you in advance, Mike.

Difficult call. I've had a "rubbing" feeling on the achilles tendon behind the ankle on my right foot for several months. What helped a lot was loosening the sock around that area of the ankle, ensuring the foot was fully to the back of the heel of the shoe and making sure the laces were tight enough that the foot didn't slide about in the shoe.

Do you stretch your soleus muscles?

westcoastsci.com/blog/soleu...

Also, have you massaged the area well? Try rolling a golf ball or a small bottle of iced water under your foot. Tendons on the foot can get tight and massaging them loosens everything up.

Also, you could try some foot and ankle strengthening exercises. linda9389 has posted some brilliant exercises for this area.
