I got an early Christmas present, Garmin Forerunner 225 and wanted to take it out for a test run. Did all the setting up, updates, regulations etc.
I decided that I would do a run after work instead of during lunchtime as I could take my time and have no pressure. I found my head torch and charged the battery.
Finished work at 5pm and went downstairs for a few mins to chill, watch a bit of tv and chat to herself until the traffic had calmed a bit. Went back upstairs to change into gear including hat light yellow jacket and high vis vest.
I left the house and started warm up walk, almost got to running point and realised I forget the headlight so went back, got it and started again. I got my podcast ready, set my watches (I wasn't too sure on the Garmin so took my Huawei GT 2 Pro with me as well), pressed start and began running up the hill.
It was my first night time run where I live, it's in a rural area with narrow unlit country roads with no lighting. It's just you, the podcast, the beam from the headtorch and the road ahead. Pure carma, the best thing running at night is that you don't have to listen out for cars and turn the sound up a bit. I love it.
The run went well, the only real problem I had was that the Garmin was set to miles instead of km, so lucky I took the Huawei as well. I had to stop a few times to let cars by on a very narrow road with ditches on either side. I was coming up to the road to run on for my 10k but decided to continue longer and take the next left which was about another 2k further up the road instead. It is also part of my short cycle route so I guessed it would add about another 6k to the run which meant that I would be close to running 15k.
The roads were very quiet with only about 15 cars throughout the whole journey and not a single person.
There were a few times where I saw what looked like hundreds of eyes looking at me when I turned my head into the fields and saw the sheep looking back at me. I remember walking with my granddaughter last year in the dark and giving her a headtorch and asking her to put it in when we were by a field of sheep and she was fascinated when she saw their eyes.
The only people I did see was when I ran past our local sports club, where there was about 20 or so teenagers getting ready to start their training session, which was great to see.
Anyway's, I had to run a couple of times around a small park to Complete the 15k and a bit more to make sure the GPS clocked it at 15k just to be safe, slowed to walking pace for about 5 minutes until I got to house, did stretches had shower sat down and ate the lovely dinner my wonderful wife had made.
Total time of run was just under 1hr 32 mins and just over 30 mins per 5k. I wasn't interested in the time and only looked at watch when it vibrated.
I'm feeling a bit stiff now so will do more stretches. I felt well during the run but the Garmin said I was in zone 5 for most of run and the Huawei kind of agreed as it said I was in boost mode (whatever that means) and that I have to rest for 50 hours. So goodnight...
