Went out yesterday after work, no being in the mood to run. This perpetual grey weather is really getting me down and I am in no mood to do anything. But I have to push myself through, so out I went. Decided to go slower than normal, hoping I might enjoy it more.
Took a completely different road in order to avoid the drowned path and the creepy old guy. But it might not be the best route to go in dusk, coming at rather industrial and deserted spots. Will have to think a bit more on another possible route.
I indeed ran slow, having ran every kilometer between 9 and 10 minutes/km. I had put on some music while normally I never listen to anything. Unfortunately I had put on a playlist on Spotify and somewhere along the run it suddenly switched to a whole other playlist that had nothing to do with me. After a while I just turned it off, having had enough of the wrong music.
I think this might have been my slowest 5K ever, having ended at 47:05 (about 4 minutes slower than normally). But I did it and it felt good. I only seem still not to be used to my new shoes.
I ran them in over 2 or 3 weeks and then had a week off from running and then a week with my old shoes. I now use my new shoes again and I do feel some aches. While running my heels seem to ache, though it does get better during the run. And a few hours after the run my heels feel a bit stiff too. I hope this will change though, I think the shoes are the same as my old ones, only a version about 6 years younger. And they were a gift from my parents. I really don't want to have to say that they are not good.
Might not be able to run in the next 3 to 5 days due to some heavy home works (as in laying a new floor in a room).
Well done for going, I think we all have runs that we really don't want to do and that require a lot of willpower to even get out the door, no matter how far or how slow the main thing is going 👍🙂
You didn’t feel in the mood to run yet you did it! Good for you 💪
These are the runs that can make a difference when you’re struggling in any future runs, just remember that you pushed through before and you can do it again 🙂
Is there still mileage in your old pair so you can wear the new ones every other run? If your heels feel better during the run and not worse then I wouldn’t worry too much. Perhaps you have one foot bigger than the other?
I still have my old shoes (they don't really have mileage in them due to their age), but I used the one and then the other and back for 2 or 3 weeks 2 weeks ago (weird sentence). As for my feet, one is slightly bigger than the other. But my new running shoes are I think 2 sizes up my normal size, so should not be a problem?
No it shouldn’t… perhaps wear your old shoes for a while and then switch to your new ones. That way you’ll know for sure and if it’s the new ones causing the heel issue.
Nice run for you Evy, don't worry about the slowness, you got out and ran, as far as the dull weather, where I live in Central Scotland the street lights have been turned on as early as half past three in the afternoon because of the weather, I don't live in Iceland when that is quite normal at this time of the year but its been so dull recently that it's night by 4pm, at least we have the Christmas lights to brighten things up, good luck for your floor laying. 😊
Sorry to hear you're in gloomy weather too. I find it really gets on my mood. Today the sun is shining, but I am working in my 'office room' at home, which is on the north side and gets no sun whatsoever. So now today there is sun and I don't see it 😜
The shoes are certainly not too tight, they are bigger than my old ones. I don't know what it is. But now the last 2 days my feet also hurt when standing up a bit longer...
Grey weather sucks and can really affect our mood at this time of year, so getting out for a run even when we don’t feel like it is a big achievement, and always worth it afterwards. So well done.
I have some newer shoes that I can’t quite make my mind up about - sometimes they’re amazing, other times, not so good (or maybe that’s just me 😃) so I can’t quite make my mind up about them. I use them for short runs and tend to use my older shoes for long runs, and it seems to work for now anyway.
Good luck with the floor, that will be a work out! All the best 😊😊😊.
Thanks, we already moved all furniture and everything in it (what a load can fit in such a small room!) right after work. So can start tomorrow with breaking out the old floor. Took tomorrow and Monday off work for it. Monday will be for recovery and sleeping 😂
Well done - I’m always amazed how much stuff can fit in a small drawer, so small rooms can really have a lot of stuff in them. I bet it’ll look really good after, and you can step back and admire your handiwork in between sleeping on Monday! 😊
It takes a lot to get out but not in the mood but sometimes you feel better after you’ve gone out. Sometimes your better to to swap your new shoes for old shoes now and again for your feet and legs to get used to them. Have you had a gait analysis before? Feet can change over the years. Mines definitely have. A nice slow run sounds good to me. Hope your back to your old self shortly.
This was the first time I had a gait analysis, so I guess the shoes should be ok? I have only used them a few times now, I keep switching between my old and new ones. So I think I do things right. Just find it weird that they give me aches...
I tried Spotify, the first couple of weeks were great then it started playing the same ad over and over after every track. I don't use it enough to justify a subscription so went back to BBC Sounds.
