Nice but not easy morning 5k today, trying out my new extended version!
Ran to metronome and an audiobooks, so maybe that was the reason for the lack of bounce as I think I usually get it from music. It seems that the audiobook and metronome rather lulls me into a non-bounce draggling sort of rhythm, one that is sustainable but not one that feels bouncy or energetic.
I also realise I have a bit of a dilemma with my new grassy 0.6k extension added to my usual 4.6k route. If I add this at the beginning, I might have to run with wet feet the majority of the run as itโs route includes lawned playing fields that I run around. If I decide to add it at the end, I might just skip it. Hmmm ๐ค
This morning, although quite early, everything was dry, so yey! So Iโm hoping this might be an all year route, but fields like this can -I guess - get pretty soggy in the winter. Mmmhh ๐ค
Anyway, happy dry, unsoggy, bouncy runs!

Oh bouncy runs are fun but ploddy runs are good too, but of a dilemma the thought of wet feet which is always worse than actual wet feet i find Any run is good ๐
It's good to experience different types of run, sometimes I'm in the mood for more bouncy runs whereas other times a plod is what's needed ๐ it's good that you managed your 5k without any further ankle incidents. I guess time will tell how muddy your new field will get ๐ณ๐โโ๏ธ
I prefer dexshell ultrathin so they're not too thick. My old sealskinz were just too bulky. And if you're between sizes go up not down, they're not as giving as regular socks. ๐๐ป I usually buy through ebay
Do these really work? I have a perennial wet feet conundrum (hate them, with a passion) and my current Gore-Tex trail shoes have given up the ghost, so contemplating the normal trail shoe + waterproof sock option next time ๐ค.
Yes, but only in the right conditions. They keep the puddles out but if your feet get too hot and sweaty they can't breathe so you could still have damp feet. I only use mine in the winter on runs of less than 2 hrs
Not much chance of me running for that long ๐ . Good to know about the socks though, they may well solve my Gore-Tex conundrum - I have to jump/tiptoe across 3 streams just to get to the start of my runs ๐
Hmmmm, yes, I see your dilemma. ๐คThe early morning dew seems to be the wettest (and most deceptiveโฆ it looks so pretty, sparkling and inviting); or the patches of grass where the frost has already been melted by the winter sunโฆ or just the frost itself which soon attaches to shoes and then melts there.
Oh no! Wet feet are the worst - I'll be interested to hear what you decide. My Gore-Tex shoes have given up even attempting to keep the water out, but I'm hanging on for a bit, just to see if I can tolerate wet feet when the weather gets colder ๐ฌ
I think I might just invest in one pair and then see how it goes. I had a look also at this video review, and they do seem to work: youtu.be/CQRCnkgNkFU
I bought a pair of Sealskinz socks last year to run in winter. You have different warmths (winter, spring / autumn, summer) and they keep the feet dry (the shoes do get wet and have to dry slowly - NOT in a dryer and NOT next to a heating device). Should buy a thin pair too for when the rain threatens in summer, but I generally tend to aboid rain.
Iโm a bit like you hate getting wet feet or covered with mowed grass that has been cut in playing fields, like the one I cross for a shortcut. Hate the cleaning of the trainers. I can see what you mean about audiobook or podcast on when you run not enough bounce . Since Iโm on walking Iโm on podcasts , tried music but found couldnt get into the rhythm as much. Weird that. At least your running ๐โโ๏ธ
How is your walking going. Iโm sorry if you miss running but youโre doing awesome with the walking. I think I couldnโt walk as much as Iโm running.
Iโll be trying waterproof socks and that might be an option also for you to consider.
Thank you getting used to the walking now. Trying 40 minutes early morning for 40 days and 8/9 km Sunday. Completed my august steps 300000 walking challenge. Hip still hurts so not going as fast think have osteoarthritis in it. Have to have blister free and not a lot of compression in socks as too tight makes neuropathy worse. Will have a look at your link. ๐
The risk with wet feet - skin! - is getting blisters. 5k might not to too far to incur a blister but going further might be a problem. It might be sensible to do the wet segment at the end if you can, if youโre increasing your distance.
The other thing is if the grass is cut short and itโs frosty. Watch out for slips!
