A View from the Treadmill

People sometimes ask why they should use a treadmill. This morning's pic shows the approaches to Portsmouth Harbour with the Isle of Wight in the background (not!) through the open window of my gym . Dexy5 has frequently posted pictures from about the same spot on Sunny Southsea's prom. I suspect you can tell it's raining, and the onshore wind was 30 knots, gusting 50. I had a nice steady run on the dreadmill, 6k in 30 mins, and consider the case made.

OK cheekychipmunks , I know this makes me a wuss - but at least I'm a dry, exercised wuss!

Never, ever, ever apologise for using a treadmill ( I know you're not, but plenty of beginners have self-doubt and question the validity of treadmills and think they may be cheating).

The weather in Liverpool and across the region was absolutely filthy on Saturday - blowing a hoolie, 6C and wind chill and absolutely lashing it down. What I call the Unholy Trinity: cold, wet and wind. Any 2 of them is ok, but all 3? Nah. Fine for the hardened fell runners and cross-country racers. Not me. Running's meant to be enjoyable, no? A good podcast to listen to or a TV/film to watch and off I go on a treadmill. No worries.

Many (not all) outdoor evangelistas (running isn't running if it isn't outside apparently) would simply knock the run on the head and wait for better weather.

But the committed runner with access to a treadmill - no excuses!

PS - it's not the dreadmill - it's the TREADMILL :-)

Sounds like the best option in this weather !

Actually considering if I can fit one in the bedroom. 🙂

Not sure our floorboards could take the strain. 😂

I know you enjoy the challenge of the treadmill! I’m so glad I got my run in yesterday before all the rain came in.

Its certainly a good day for staying warm and writing Christmas cards! 🤶🎅🏻

Today was 'orrible and I was thinking wistfully of a gym membership. (Fortunately there was a gap in the awfulness and I sneaked out for a crafty 6.25K as I do most days).

Treadmill absolutely brill at this time of year. 👍

Very wise UTS - luckily I managed to get my run done yesterday, a very pleasant 10k down to the Mountbatten Centre and back.

UTS you’re not the wuss at the moment, it’s definitely me! A winter stretching ahead in the wind and slop of the common even had me questioning my desire to run! But I need to walk Flossie and don’t have time to run anywhere where she can’t go off lead with me. Roll on spring!

Let's hear it for the treadmill ✌️. I've done all my running on it and like many have said it felt like cheating but this awful weather doesn't inspire me to go outdoors. Maybe in the spring....

Happily I went in the pool yesterday, a venue where I would be disappointed not to get wet. This morning was much better for running, if still a tad windy
