Today was my first run back after my booster jab and i was really looking forward to going out having had two previous attempts thwarted by being unable to breathe. I was also slightly worried in case I hadn't sufficiently recovered.
In order to prepare I thought it would be a great idea to get out of bed and put my man tights and shorts on straight away prior to my Zoom meeting in order to head out the door immediately afterwards. Then started much faffage. Since when did i acquire so much kit i needed to assemble? The combination sequence of a pair of glasses, buff, head sweatband, musicozy and hat proved to be quite challenging.
Anyhow, i was finally out and my heartrate immediately shot up into zone 3 which gave me immediate concern. Just slow down you idiot. All you want is a 5k+ gentle run to get back into it. As i slowed down so my heart rate steadied. I was running. I was out. It was cold. I just didn't care. I was running again. When "Alright Now" by Free came through my sound system the emotions came over me and I just could have cried i was so happy. This was going to be a good run.
Up the hill nice and slowly - no problem. Down the hill with arms out like an aeroplane. This was superb. Bidding good morning to passers by. Someone's Border Collie running along side me smiling. This was just so wonderful. All of life's stresses dissipated as I became immersed in my run.
At 6km I turned off the pavement and up a short grassy bank towards home. As soon as my foot hit the grass I went face first into the mud. As i tried to get up my feet slipped and i went down again so ended up crawling the 5m up the slope before getting back up. Don't look back Alan. Just don't look back. You have provided the entertainment for the queue of traffic at the lights. Marvellous. Who cares.
It was slow. It was wonderful. I am just so happy.
Ouch. Yes indeed. Fortunately just winded and muddy. Of course, at times such as these one gets up pretending nothing has happened and continues with no limping permitted π
It doesnβt sound like the slip in the mud affected your enjoyment of the run! Well done for your post vaccine slow run and good to know your man tights survived to fight another day! ππ
Well done on such a happy run (and good choice of music) but I feel your pain! I once ran across a road but rather than go straight (and over the drop kerb) I went diagonal and tripped over the kerb. Like you I jumped up and ran on - nothing to see!! Ran straight along the path and behind the hedge and stopped to feel sorry for myself and my skinned knees. Am I the only one who used to tell the kids itβs just a wee graze. It HURTS!!
And the award for best face-plant goes to........ Hidden ! π Seriously, glad you're not injured.
Years ago I got off an overnight ski bus at a motorway service station stop and, being an over-excitable idiot, decided to run across the car park. Didn't see the line of concrete dividers between spaces and went headlong. Got up and continued, walking, a bit bloodied and bruised and absolutely wanting to die of embarrassment.
When I got back to the bus some young men were having a really good laugh at the hilarious scene they'd just witnessed. The only upside was that one commented, "I'll say this for her, she picked herself up and carried on like nothing had happened." Yeah, well, mate, I've had a lot of practice at pratfalls, frequently public.
How wonderful! The joy of running is like nothing else. Sorry about your fall in the mud, but it was worth it!You have inspired me - I haven't been out to run for a few days, but must get out there to feel the joy.
