Thought I'd try an extended warm up to see how it affected my heart rate. After my normal 5 minute walk I did the first 2k using run /walk keeping an eye on the HR then finished with an 8k run. It made a big difference in stopping the toxic ten and the HR was kept to an average 118. Ended up with decent times for an 8 or 10k run so I will count it as a successful experience. Not sure if I would do it again but will definitely extend my warm up time in the future.

When it gets colder I always do a longer warm up and it makes a big difference. I’m a believer in warmups as I reckon if it’s good enough for the elites then it’s good enough for me!
