10K + 2 pb's

Hiya,

I have done some (maybe too heavy) walks the past week and my sciatic brat was not happy. Nevertheless, today was the last time I could do a run at the coast, so I really wanted to run. The weather didn't look well either (threathening with rain), so the gremlins were very persistent on whether to run or not. In the end I did go out in the idea that otherwise I'd regret it.

Long thights, long sleeved shirt, rain cap. Lots of wind, about 12°C and dark grey clouds. Took my 10K route at the coast, meaning a run along the main road, past the marina / harbor over the dune path and back towards the polders to end up between the fields.

I started much too fast, but could not get myself to slow down. Feared I would get knocked back in the second half, but it was still ok. A for me rather fast cadence of average 160 spm (including Jeffing walks).

At 8K it started dripping and at 9K it started raining. I don't like rain, but I was going to get to 10K. Had to get home anyhow, so I could as well do it running.

Got the following splits: 8:51 - 8:22 - 8:20 - 8:11 - 8:23 - 7:59 - 7:47 - 7:55 - 7:30 - 7:37.

And got 2 pb's on top of it all. A pb on 10K (1:20:58) and a pb on 5K (38:38). The 5K I can never reach when running only 5K. Can only do fast (for me) 5K's while doing a longer distance.

Despite the weather I enjoyed the run, only got a bit of a tummy ache at the moment. Is this due to the run in the rain (nasty weather affects me hard) or the weird tasting drink yesterday, no idea...

Edit: forgot to mention, but I THINK I succeeded in running parts of the run with midfoot strike instead of heel strike. Not much, because I really have to concentrate hard to do it. But I do think I succeeded in parts. Hopefully I'll be able to do this midfoot strike more often and that it becomes more natural.

Cheers, Evy

Well done on the 10k and the P B 's Evy 👍Hope the tummy ache was not through eating the fungi in the picture 😁🤔 ?

in reply to Instructor57

Haha no, though if my memory is correct, these are actually edible. I used to be a shroom fanatic in my past. Even trying to determine shrooms through spores under the microscope. But as many hobbies I have had, also this one died a silent death...

I did try growing Shiitake mushrooms from a log kit in the past .... No success unfortunately 🤣

Tried such a home growing kit once too. Think I got 3 mushies from it in total 🤔

Well done Evy on another 10 km PB and your 5 km PB. Great negative splits as well . Your not much of a snail at those splits. At least you didn’t get wet from the beginning of your run. I got my 7km run out before the rain. Hope you don’t suffer with sciatica and your tummy gets better. 🙂

Yes, I am glad I did not start with rain either. Though I think I would not have started at all then. It has been constantly raining since my run now.

And thanks, I don't feel much snaily either at this pace. But I think that my future runs will be slower again. Had a week off work and it invigorated (?) me ☺

That’s brilliant - 2 pbs in one run! Nice to end your last coast run this year on a high, and that the sciatic brat wasn’t too much trouble. Don’t eat the tree fungus or you will get tummy ache! Well done Evy. 😁😁😁.

Ha yes, I am happy I did go for the run after all. A nice ending of the season ☺
