Fast (for a snail) 7K

Hiya,

Went out this morning for another easy 5K, but quickly decided to go for 7K. Funnily enough I stopped a couple of times to take some pictures, but think I still ran my fastest 7K so far (57:33 - not including distances above 7K). And yet it did not feel as if I was running faster. My cadence was average 159 (including my Jeffing walk breaks), which is to the high side for me. So I guess the slightly higher cadence is why it did not feel faster?

Anyhow I enjoyed myself, taking in the scenery as much as possible. The weather was gorgeous: slightly chilly with lots of sun (and wind). It is the 1 to last run here until April, so I try to soak up the lovely scenery as much as possible.

I almost got negative splits (not intended), 1 second ruined this: 9:22 - 8:37 - 8:38 - 8:09 - 7:53 - 7:43 - 7:07.

Hope I will be able to do another run here on Sunday and then my coast-time is over till April. Alass, I will miss it dearly here. At home there is nothing coming close in scenery. At least nowhere where I can run.

Cheers, Evy

It's great that you got some good weather for your last coastal run this year. I can't seem to judge my running pace that well either, sometimes I feel like I'm going quickly only to find that it's as slow as my usual pace, other times I feel like I'm going along steadily only to find I'm quicker than normal! And that one pesky second that doesn't matter in the slightest but is still irksome when looking at your splits! Put it down to a recording error in your app ;)

Haha yeah, Garmin was mistaken 😜. And indeed, pace can be so weird at times. Must say though that while I went fast (for me), it did feel good. While when I consciously try to be fast, I feel like I'm dying...

Those are lovely photos 😍 that golden light is just gorgeous at the minute and you’ve captured it really well.

Well done on the run and you did do negative splits! You have to run the second half of a run faster than the first half and you’ve done that, so well done and congratulations to you 👍

Thanks and yes, the light is lovely this time of the year ☺

Well done Evy ! And lovely pictures .

Hope the sciatica was ok ?

And as Irishprincess has said , the 2nd half of the run was quicker than the first so negative splits it is , well done 😁👍

in reply toInstructor57

Thanks! The sciatica has behaved well, though it felt the need to give a lil poke as if to say 'don't forget me'. But besides the lil poke, it was all good.

Though I just did a tiring walk just now (I wish I could say I can't feel my legs anymore, but on contrary, I feel them well enough 😶), hope that won't do anything...

Great photos of your run. Thank you for sharing.

Great negative splits. Great photos sunshine what’s that. We’ve got floods in our area . Glad your sciatica better , and your out and running again

in reply toDoris8

Just felt the sciatic nerve give an angry yell... Don't think he's happy with first running 7K (10.000 steps) and then doing a long shopping walk (another 10.000 steps)...

Sorry to hear about the floods. Hope you're all safe!

Yes we’re all well where we live. But 20 miles down the road evacuated but water subsided so all ok. Take it easy.

Gorgeous BS, I’m not surprised you enjoy running there. 😍 And yes, that’s a wonderful example of negative splits. 👏👏 Something the vast majority of us had ever heard of before becoming runners! 😀

in reply tocheekychipmunks

Thanks, I love it here too. And indeed, I had only heard of negative splits coming here. But I am a little fobfused now. I thought negative splits are that every kilometer is faster than the one before. But now I read it is if the second half of the run is faster than the first?

It can be both. I think “true” negative splits are by the km, but otherwise it’s the second half being quicker than the first. 😀

Missed true negative splits by 1 second 😶

What a great run! It looks so peaceful there. That 1 second is very naughty, great times though 😁. It sounds as though your sciatica is feeling better, that’s brill. I had meant to go for a run this morning but my legs are tired so I’m going to have an extra day’s rest. 😊

in reply toFrenc

For me they are indeed great times. The run felt so swift, it felt easy despite running faster. I only get such a run once in a 100 or so. A run to remember!

An extra day rest is never bad, if the legs feel tired, the run would be most probably hard and you would not enjoy it. So better a day more rest and having a brilliant run after!

I know what you mean! I wish, really wish all our runs felt like this, they make it all worth it. Ha ha yes, I’m being sensible with my achey legs. I wanted to run today to avoid the Winchester 10k tomorrow, but my legs are telling me otherwise. I’ll just have to choose my route carefully, and prepare to get soaked - the weather forecast is awful 😢.

in reply toFrenc

I know what you mean. I had luck with my sunny run yesterday. Soon after it started raining and today is rainy too. I fear a bit for running tomorrow. I don't start in rain...

We can both run in the rain Evy! I’ll be thinking of you 😊.

Ooh, I do love wide open space like that, looks perfect for running. Well done on your 7K!

in reply toacountrycabbage

When it is verrry cloudy, it can feel desolate though and a bit creepy being all alone out there. But when the weather is sunny like yesterday it feels great to run there.
