Hiya,

Took 2 rest days after my last run (5K) because of groin-pain and life. Today I felt good enough for a run. Unfortunately it was raining the whole morning and I had to wait until 2 hours after my lunch.

Took a little piece of chocolate and a sip of water, did a little bit of warming up and set of. I was going to Jeff this run again (4min30 run / 0min30 walk). After 250 meter I had to stop and reset my watch, as I had set it to warn me when my heartrate climbed into zone 4. But I was not going to slow jog, so I would hop in zone 4 often enough. As the watch would buzz continuously, I had to reset him.

Ok, after this false start, a new, real start. Up the road to the nearby city, crossing over to the harbour before reaching the city (pic of the harbour in the comments), onto the gravelly dune road and onto the road between the fields. That was my route today.

I planned on doing more than 5K. 10K popped in my mind, but I considered this unwise as I had only done 3 or 4 runs since my month of not running and the longest I ran so far was 5K. So maybe 7K?

I had stitches in my abdomen for the first 10 minutes, is this because of the lil piece of chocolate? It passed after 10 minutes luckily, but did appear again once in a while during the run. Succeeded in biting through it though.

The weather was very cloudy with loads of wind. Luckily the rain was gone for the moment, maybe I had the heavy winds to thank for that. Had to pass more people than normally, especially on the dune path. Several find it too much trouble to let me pass, taking in the whole width of the path. Corona people, give me some room! I am a risc patient (immune deficiency) and a tad scared of people due to corona.

Anyhow, I reached the 7K without any problems, thinking I could have gone further still. But I have to be wise and not overdo it. Better reach 7K and be able to run again, than reach 10K and sit on the IC for several weeks.

And with this 7K I also finished my Conqueror Gizah challenge. That is another bling bling on the way!

Cheers, Evy

Good post from you BlackScorpion and congratulations on that 7K run, like you I don't go out for a run if it's heavy rain, but if it starts raining ☔ while running I'll continue with the run, not just stop and go home😊☔, yesterday was a good example of that at the parkrun I was running in, at around 3K it started pelting down, lol, I just couldn't stop and shelter, luckily the rain eased and was only very light after about 4K, well done on that Conqueror Gizah Challenge and 🥉 bling👍😊 🏃🏾

Thanks and yeah when it is raining already, I prefer waiting till it stops. If I am already running, it depends on how hard it rains and where I am. With my luck I am right at the fartest point of my route, haha.

Hi well done on your 7km run and challenge. More silverware for you. Great picture of harbour, looks like a big city with all those surrounding buildings. You thought your heart rate zone was bad mines went into zone 5 205 heart rate and only when went into slow jogging half a minute every 10 minutes. Must be watch as wasn’t out of breath and going so slow . These zones are tricky. Keep it up 👏

in reply toDoris8

Thanks, it is not a big / big city, but it is a well known coastal city here in Belgium. As for HR, I really should do a test run to find my max HR and to find out my correct zones. Only after such a test the zones will be more accurate. I read somewhere in the past that you should do such a test run on a regular basis (like every half year) as your max HR changes with exercise. I just don't feel like kitting up for like 10 minutes. Lazy bum = me 😹

Agree I’ve only a Garmin forerunner 35 and they say wrist monitors not the best for monitoring HR . Think sweat 😓 would be dripping off me at that 205 and out of breath🤣 . Not reading too much into it doing conversational pace speaking to myself 😂

in reply toDoris8

I have a VivoActive 4S and my trust lies in its heart rate monitoring too. I tried a HR chest strap years ago when I did climbing as I often went too 'heavy', but it felt annoying. So I don't feel like running with a strap. Plus I run for health and fun, not to reach certain goals.

Now I just read to do a long run and to then add a minute of your fastest and hardest running to the end to know your highest HR and to determine the zones. Yeah... now I read this, 2 hours after my long run 😶

Great run, well done. Sounds unlikely that chocolate would give you a stitch, it’s an essential in life so shouldn’t be blamed for anything 😂 happy running 🤗

in reply toGrannyhugs

Chocolate is holy! Unfortunately it also adds its weigth in triplicate to my scale, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. But I once had 1 dried date (the fruit?) before a run and also had a stitch then. So I always think I really have to abstain from any kind of food 2 hours before a run...

Sorry had a giggle at that😂. I’m lucky as seem to be able to run with or without food first, everyone is different and we all need to learn what suits our bodies.

Nice progress, I hope your pain is cleared up.

in reply toDylanTheRabbit

Thanks! My knees keep hurting slightly, but it might be my arthritis (though I hope not!). The stitch is gone soon I stopped running.

Well done… and wise decision not to overdo things despite the temptation.

in reply toGailXrunning

It was difficult to not add a K extra, the temptation gremlin was strong. But I was stronger. That second 10K will come zgain 😁

Hurrah for a great run! I’ve had a stitch once, and it’s horrible, so well done for carrying on. Also it’s brill your groin seems to be behaving itself. A fab 7k 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️😊.

in reply toFrenc

Thanks and yeah I have had a stitch a few times already. Mostly because I ate something small before running (I think). Had to stop because of it a few times, but could bite through it the 2 last times. Though I do hope not to have it too often...
