10k in touching distance

β€’10 Replies

Having completed my first ever 50 minute run last week my goal today was to consolidate my 50 minutes.

Despite being much cooler this morning....and very dark, I really struggled initially to get into my run even though I was going at my new steady pace.

However, by the 4km mark things became much easier which sounds completely bonkers considering I had difficulty doing 1 minute intervals back in April.

My hips were starting to ache around 7km but as I had taken a wrong turn I took the opportunity to continue home covering 8km in 56 minutes.

This success has convinced me I will be able to beat the 60 minute marker as well as get to 10k in the not too distant future.

Up until last week when I managed 50 minutes the thought of 10k was a million miles off. Now....... I can smell it πŸ™‚

Well done! I was just reaching 8km at the start of this year.

Rest those hips now. Are you using the NHS post-run stretches after a run?

Sort of 🀣🀣

I think I need to do them properly. Thanks for the link. I definitely need to start doing the hip flexor ones πŸ‘

The ones I skimped on earlier in the year were the ones lying down. That's how I got tight hamstrings and pulled an adductor muscle in my groin back in April. It's essential to do all of the stretches.

Well done πŸ‘πŸ» πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

It’s fantastic when you realise that 10k is within reach. Enjoy these longer runs, stick to the 10% increase rule and make sure you stretch out after each run. It will all help you get to that special 10k! Good luck

You’ll definitely get there - to 60 minutes (imminent) and then to 10k. Take your time and enjoy the journey, you’ll arrive soon enough. (As nowster says, be sure to do your stretches!)

8k is itself an achievement - as well as being a really nice distance. I recall feeling especially pleased and celebratory at 8k/ 5 miles. It’s a special number.
