10 months on - the Pennine way, the real thing !!

Oh joy - I haven’t been running for 10 days but have just returned from a 5 day trip up north to visit family and spent some time rediscovering my original hobby of hiking - and made a special point of visiting a (albeit small) part of the Pennine Way which I ran virtually with end to end last winter. Oh the joy - of recognising places I’d seen in photos on google maps as I attempted to trace my virtual route ! A round walk from Hebden Bridge to Stoodley Pike and beyond. Lots of hills ! But even so I found myself thinking ‘ ooh I could probably run this bit’ (the flattish bits !) which is testament to my new found running habit !!

I know it’s not really proof but the photo shows the screen shot from where I was on the virtual route (6th November 2020) and the actual route I took recorded by Strava on 2nd September 2021. Hurrah ! Now back to London and looking forward to a run tomorrow - though they have cordoned off our local park for a 3 day/night music festival which apparently is audible a mile away…. (at least the base beat is). Why would anyone buy tickets to be penned into their local park ?!

Update (5th sept): my first run for 11 days and after two long hikes which gave me a dodgy knee went fine ! Was worried about knee so took it easy - a slow run/walk 60:30 - and knee gave me no trouble and I got a surprising low heart rate (good for my VO2Max which went up one again!). Hurrah ! Seems the knee injury is definitely a walking one, not a running one…. Still a bit dodgy when I walk…. But no worse. Hurrah.

That must have been lovely, to see parts of your virtual run in reality, and enjoy the music from a distance

What a lovely thing to do, walk part of the route you ran virtually, it must have been great to recognise each area. Enjoy the base beat, you’ll be running to the rhythm in your dreams. Happy running 🤗

A lovely area for walking and running virtually. (Probably a bit hardcore to run for real… for me, at least!) Your post brings back lots of wonderful memories of hikes with friends and family.

It's a great place to go walking, but hugely hilly. The railway station in Hebden Bridge is worth a look as it's incredibly well preserved.
