First 10k Today

Went out for a mid week 5k and felt so good at 5 I just kept going and did my first 10k.

Most surprised that I felt fine when I did it. No aches or pains or sore legs. Pretty pleased at that as I'm 71 in a few weeks.

Do I need to apply for my graduate badge?

How did your pace compare with doing 5km?

Well done! 👍

Many thanks. My pace was around 15 seconds per km slower overall. Those last couple of km were definitely slowing down.

That sounds about right for pacing. The longer the run the slower the pace.

Congratulations Boboz, that is tremendous, especially later in life. You've inspired me (similar age) and you even make it sound quite easy when you say you 'just kept going'. I'm waiting for the feeling that the legs are going to carry me further and the breath enables a run to continue to the sweet 10k. Obviously, it does happen when you're ready. Enjoy your admirable achievement.

Best wishes ☺️

I have been close to 10k on a couple of previous occasions but cramp in my calves stopped me getting there. Luckily I don't have a problem with getting out of breath, probably due to my swimming background. But now I am in full lockdown and unable to go to work I have increased my running days and I think this has got my older legs ready for the longer distance.

Just keep pushing and you will certainly get there too. One day it will just happen.
