she would have more trainers than me. However, during the past year while mostly on the IC I have redressed the balance a little, buying running shoes as an affirmation that I would return to running.
On Tuesday I ran my first 5K in over a year, so to celebrate, today I broke out a new pair of "Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38" - what a mouthful! This is my first item of Nike clothing ever - Pegasus versions 1 - 37 somehow passed me by.
I'd seen these well reviewed as a daily trainer, though perhaps too heavy and cushioned for the lighter runner. As I'm several stone overweight they sounded just right for me!
I went up half a size as I'd read they were a little narrow. Felt stiff when I first put them on, but became much softer as I did my warm up walk. So much foam that each step was an event, with so much detailed sensation that I thought they are clearly not designed for walking. I could feel individual teeth in the outsole being forced to relinquish their grip on the pavement.
Also a little stiff underfoot when running for the first 3K, and then they became much nicer, and all around very comfy as my considerable weight bashed them into submission.
The 5K was about a minute faster than my target pace of 35 mins @ 33:45. I blame the energy return from all of that foam in these new shoes!
