Today was always going to be ‘easy’, maybe 3K or 4K at a push.
My legs felt the 10k and I felt a little ‘niggle’ on my lower left calf after my second hill sprint the other day .
Having ended up on the IC in January with my right calf I won’t be taking any risks so it will be short and steady until it feels ok . Not as bad as then, just a niggle but I could feel it today on the clutch pedal whilst driving .
Anyway instead of a distance run this morning I chose a 20 minute NRC run with Coach Bennett called ( funnily enough) ‘A Twenty MinuteRun’.
Very much a chilled recovery run, making sure I started nice and easy and let the pace just improve slightly by the end .( or not 🤷🏼♀️ CB said it was up to me 😉😄)
He was also talking about how he liked a twenty minute run just because it wasn’t a 10 or 30 and to start off with thinking of doing a 20 minute run, when you weren’t feeling like a longer run at the start, could often lead to a 30 min run once you got into it or indeed a 24 minute or whatever you felt like come the time.
I like Coach Bennett 😂 we seem to have the same kinds conversations of with ourselves 😂 He usually has something that resonates anyway 🙂
This conversation reminded me that a few years back I caught myself always, whilst at the petrol pumps, ensuring I hit an exact number of ££ for the fuel i.e. exactly £25 or £30 etc. Don’t know why but this behaviour suddenly made me uncomfortable 😂😂🤷🏼♀️
So since then I have always ‘randomly’ filled up to £25.34 or £24.92 etc. Which as a ‘behaviour’ is probably just as bad 🤦♀️🤦♀️😂😂
So today I didn’t run 3K , I ran 3.11K and instead of 20 minutes I ran 24:16 mins 👌

Have only briefly dabbled with NRC, and I like him the best. I especially like his fartleks run, explaining exactly what he means with the different paces.
I’ve yet to set myself free…I’m very anal with my times/distances 🙄😂
I do that with the petrol as well. Hitting £15 rather than £15.03 gives me a worrying sense of satisfaction.😂😂
I tried CB very briefly but found him a bit too much and thought he wasn't for me. Your post has made me reconsider as I'm struggling with motivation at the moment. I really don't like warm weather running so have got out of a routine over the last month or so.
So two takeaways today. Retry CB and mix it up at the pump 👍
That’s funny, I was talking about the petrol thing the other day, saying how years ago when you tripped over by a penny, cashiers would remove it. My dad had been annoyed he couldn’t go to his usual station because of a road blockage so ended up at a little place who knocked the penny off when he went over! ‘Top service’ he said! 😄 Not sure I can handle the random numbers thing myself.. 🤯 Maybe I will try!
Great to see you hard at it and clearly still enjoying this running lark. I’m slowly starting up again. Hoping to get back on the forum too, it’s the best motivator.
