So today I started the NRC 10k programme.I met coach Bennett, not sure we’ll get on though….
I usually do min 5k runs so felt like I was cheating today doing a 3k but I told myself to believe in the programme as I did the Ct5k.

I know exactly what you mean about starting with a 3k, the final run of the first week is still only 4k. Week 2's long run is a 5k but the two recovery runs are really short. By week 3 we'll be up to 6k so that'll feel like progress.
If you're not convinced by Coach B you might prefer Coach Cory with the interval run.
As you say, have faith.
thanks for your reply Yesletsgo ooh 6k w3 sounds good. I think I’ll try Cory to see which I prefer. I know you can turn off guidance but I do prefer it to a degree, to keep me motivated.
I’m excited again esp to graduate (I know it’s a way off yet) ☺️
It’s a bit marmite! It took me some getting used to. There’s a lot of cheese but it might grow on you. At least it’s free and easily deleted if not!
I haven’t stuck rigidly to the programme-for example the 555 second run was just too short for my liking! I’ve taken into account what I’ve been running recently and extended a few runs. That’s done with the experience of a couple of times through their half marathon programme and knowing what’s a sensible build week on week-I wouldn’t extend my longest run or total weekly run time by more than about 10%. I also like to add in cut back weeks more often than they usually appear in plans and I won’t be running more than three or four times a week.
It’s absolutely not cheating to do shorter runs though. I loved my 3km easy run today!
Have fun!🤩
HiMissUnderstanding , thanks for the reply. Yes if it’s not for me I’ll probably do ju ju’s.
I too prefer running every other day at the most, usually 3 times a week 4 occasionally depending on my shifts that week. So my NRC ‘weeks’ will be longer.
Surprisingly my 3k felt tougher today. I think that was the unknown gremlins at work . As I wasn’t sure what to expect from the guidance.
Or maybe CB put me off. I’ll definitely give Cory ago when I get the chance. I’ve had a look through the app & cannot see where to change the coach. Unless that’s an option on specific runs?
Thank you I’m sure I will 🏃🏻♀️🥇💨
You can’t do a straight change of coaches. However there are lots of runs, and several different coaches…so you could probably swap a run, like for like. So I fact there are 288 runs to choose from, and you can read the overview to see who the coach is!
LottieMW is absolutely right-you can only see the coach on the run blurb and its not possible to filter them. Depending on whether you’re a fan or not (un)fortunately Coach B is on most of the easy/recovery/distance runs and the others pop up on speed runs (mostly). The distance based runs usually have longer gaps between the coach talking (especially if you take it at a slow pace like me!).
I like the runs with another person with him. Headspace ones often have Andy Puddicombe. They’re great-running towards your goals is my favourite and I listen to a lot. The runs with pro runners being interviewed are interesting too. The “Run with Lopez” is the best run of any run I’ve done on the app. It’s available in three parts or one hour and a half run. You can’t pause and pick up the runs on NRC so I just carried on running to finish the long one because it was so good.
I’m sure there are other apps available-definitely ask on here or the Fun Beyond 10k forum if you’re not enjoying this one. Life’s too short to listen to guided runs you don’t like!
aah right. Sounds like a plan.i will take a look thanks LottieMW
I have been using NRC for over a year now. I pick and choose my runs and coaches, but I did the NRC HM plan and there is a lot of CB in that. Looking back I picked up lots of good habits from him; just absorbed them over a number of runs. It has definitely made me a better runner. My first reaction was “ this is a bit cheesy” but the programme grew on me. Each to their own of course.🙂
Many of us used Ju-ju’s magic plan to get to 10k. It is not a guided run , but is a 8 week plan where you complete 3 sets of different distances within a week in any order. One run is extended . I can thoroughly recommend it.

I only discovered NRC after 3 years of running and choose individual guided runs rather than a plan, but I have come to enjoy Coach Bennett’s company on my runs.
