This morning I ran my 17th 10K run at Stirling by the castle, the photo is of the Wallace Monument, that commemorates Sir William Wallace, a 13th Century Scottish hero.
Three years ago I climbed up all 246 steps to the top of the monument, that is a workout in its self.

Thanks Jools2020, 246 steps is alot but there are several landings up the monument where you can take a short break and, ha, ha, read all about the battles throughout history between 🏴 Scotland and England 🏴, these battles still continue to this day, mainly at rugby and at a few football games. 😊
I am not really a football fan, however, as a Scot I wish England a good Euro final on Sunday evening, if they win there won't be any other news on Monday and perhaps for the rest of next week. 😊
I ran along beside the River Forth, mainly flat but there were a few short hills as well, I could see Stirling Castle as well as the Wallace Monument, yes walking up the hill to the bottom of the monument 3 years ago and then climbing all those steps was quite a workout.
Thanks Grannyhugs regarding my 17th 10K, I ran by the side of the Forth so there weren't too many hills, lovely morning for a run, part of that run was where I ran, run 3 of week 8 of C25K in June 2018.
Thanks Birdlady64 regarding my 17th 10K, 246 steps is a workout in itself, just as well it was 3 years ago, I don't think that I could climb up all those steps today after running 10K., I am not an elite athlete.
What am amazing 17th 10K run AlMorr 🤗Glasgow is my hometown, although I live in England now, my daughter and I visited the Wallace Monument a couple of years ago with the intention of climbing to the top, but sadly it was closed for works..but it's on my to do list 👍🤞
Thanks sparky66, there was a mini bus at the bottom of the hill, I paid at the office and was told to wait for the bus which would arrive in around 15 minutes, but I chose to walk up the hill to the monument, showed my ticked to the man at the entrance of the monument and then started climbing up all those steps, there are various landings where you can rest and read all about the history of Scotland.
Update sparky66, from the top of the Wallace Monument you can see in the foreground The University of Stirling, they have a parkrun which I ran on Saturday 25th September, when I was running I could see the monument much closer than the above photo, I thought to myself, 'I climbed up that monument 3 years ago, it looks so high'
Lovely run around the Castle AlMorr great view. It’s a big climb to the castle as well and Wallace monument is something else as well. It’s a great castle to have a look around as well. Welldone 👏👏🤗
It was near Stirling Castle, I could see both the castle and that monument, the time I was in Stirling Castle was a very long time ago, however, I climbed the Wallace Monument from the very bottom of the hill 3 years ago despite the fact I could have got a bus up the hill, then climbed up those 246 steps to the top, quite a workout.
PS, I do have a photograph somewhere on my Smartphone which I took from the top of the monument 3 years ago, I'll look for it and post it here if I find it.
Thanks Beatlesforever, I enjoyed my 17th 10K run this morning, I am glad that you like my photo, by the way Beatlesforever I now have Spotify Premium and have hours and hours of ad free Beatles 🎶 music which I can download and listen to when I am outside walking 🚶 or 🏃🏾 running.
I like most types of music except Death Metal and Rap, if I wish to listen to a full work of Classical Music and don't have it on CD I can now can listen to it on Spotify.
Thanks grumpyoldgirl, I have not set any records on running but according to my running diary I have ran 17 official Parkruns, 56 (not) parkruns, 17/10Ks, a few 8K, 11K,12K, 14K and 2/10 mile runs since I graduated from C25K on the 18th June 2018, I did decide last week after running my second 10 miles run that from now on 10K will be my longest distance, 3K, 5K,8K and 10K runs are the distance I love running. 😊 🏃🏾
PS grumpyoldgirl, I was speaking to one of the members of my Thursday morning walking group, she used to run and has ran 40/10K's, however, she told me that on a few occasions when running at an event 10K such as the Great Scottish 10K many "runners" who have not trained for the event at all tend to stop running and walk slowly and keep back runners who have trained for the event which could affect their time if they were after a PB
An example of that was several years ago when there were about 60,000 entries for the Great North Run, however, around as many as 20,000 did not start and many opted out before even completing the first 5k of that run, I think this happens a lot on those event runs.
Thank you Dups, yes I like running but after my second 10 mile run last week I decided that I won't run any longer than 10K from now on, same with cycling, I had a 3 and a half-hour bike ride a few weeks ago and came home knackered, so from now on, like running 2 hours on the bike will be my longest bike ride.
Well done Al, another 10k completed. I met some your Scottish heroes( football fans) on the train to London on the day of the recent England/Scotland game. We were serenaded with football songs throughout the journey, including "Stand up if you hate England" which left only Mrs BC and me sitting in the carriage, plus two Scots lads who chose to be polite!! All done in fun and there were fist bumps and "enjoy your day" when they left the train; sums up the relationship really.🙂
Thanks BC66, I keep clear of football fans, I treat them all as if they have the plague, apart from football fans, (it's the football fans that is causing Covid 19 to increase again) we Scots do NOT hate the English, my friend in the Thursday morning walking group is from Shropshire, I am running with him doing C25K, fortunately, like me, he is not a football fan.
Fantastic run! We have stayed in this area a couple of times on holiday and love it. I've been to the top of the Wallace Monument too. Loved the view but was quite panicky on the stairs! Thank you for your inspiring posts.
Thanks, you have to be careful especially coming back down the stairs, it's quite narrow and steep, I did take a photo at the top but realised that the photo is on my old Smartphone.
How beautiful! It must make the 10km all the more enjoyable to have such a view. Yes I bet those steps can be a good work out... I did something similar Tuesday but didn't even have the energy to count the steps
It is very nice running or walking when the view is as beautiful as the one you see in the picture I took, I didn't count the steps, it was the guide that I read saying there were all those steps. 😊 👍
Thanks colinia, I enjoyed running that 10K in Stirling beside the River Forth with lovely views of the Wallace Monument, the Ochil Hills and the Scottish Highlands in the distance.
It is RWH, even better from the top of the monument. When the visibility is excellent like on the day 3 years ago when I went to the top, I could see looking one direction almost back to where I live 15 miles away, looking the other direction I could see the Scottish Highlands with the famous Ben Lomond in the distance.
