Never again!

Today was my longer run. 12k was my aim, as doing those not so gentle increases each 3rd run. It started ok with an nrc 10k which I'd downloaded. I thought I'd add the extra 2k on the end. I have to say I'm not a coach Bennet fan. I haven't worked out how to keep tge run but switch off his commentary? I had a downloaded Sounds of the 60's...which worked well if too much of Tony Blackburn. Hard to believe he is still doing what he always did, 57 years later. I remember listening to him when I was a teenager... When his show finished I had the Archer's omnibus to get me through the next hour....I'm slow....by then I'd reached the beach and thought there was just enough low tide left to do the last 3 k alongside the sea...what a mistake...the sand soon became soft and then ended in shingle. Have you ever run on shingle?? Don't. It was awful, but short of trekking back or climbing a cliff face, neither which I could contemplate, the only option was to continue. I gave up after 2.95k....was sooo relieved to stop, quick swim and home to Epson salts bath. Thighs still aching. Lesson learnt.

Wow! Running on sand is hard but shingle sounds impossible. Still you managed a great distance. Well done!

Thank you. I should have done the run in reverse so I had enough tide...but it's so nice ending up along the sea shore.

Feeling great now, fueled by a couple of kir royales, prosecco and cassis, as my sister has come to stay....cause for celebration.

Running on shingle is awful, you poor thing! We have a shingle beach here and I find walking on it hard enough. I don't think you can switch off the commentary on the guided runs, I suppose you could just track the run? Hope your legs recover soon!

That sounds like hard work! Can't imagine doing more than stumbling along on shingle-veru impressed that you ran it.

With respect to NRC you can set a timed or distance run with no commentary other than the kilometres markers .You probably know this but if not go to NRC and select quick start instead of guided run then you can select distance or Duration.

I didn't know about the quick start so shall definitely be going for that option in future. Thank you

I hate running on grass let alone sand or shingle

Grass is softer on the feet isn't it?
