My first 10k

I was going to entitle this My first ( and last) 10 k and then had second thoughts because I’ve come so far and why shouldn’t I continue to make progress and run another 10k or 12 k or whatever I fancy. Last week I wrote on this forum that I’d managed 7 k in exactly 60 minutes whilst listening to NRC app. Well, this morning I decided to listen to coach Bennett on a 90 minute run and he was great. I was so close to 10 k that I decided to push myself for the last part of the time and just sneaked into 10k. I am so proud of myself and grateful for the encouragement and advice that this forum provides. Thank you and keep going…

Oh well done for your FIRST 10K! No reason on earth why you should stop there! Once you’ve finished congratulating yourself 😊 you can think about where to go next! 10K is a gateway that you’ve just opened.

Many congratulations on that amazing achievement! 👏👏👏👍🏃‍♀️🏆

Massive congratulations and delighted that you are already thinking you can repeat this in the future. You’ve done it once so it’s there again whenever you want it. Happy running 🤗

Well done and congratulations! You just wait, some day it will tickle enough to try another 10K again!

Well done to you! 🎉👏🏅🏃🏻‍♀️ I see that we are the same age. 😊 Was it a beautiful route I wonder? Enjoy your afterglow! Are you celebrating?

Thank you. The route was flat, round and round a park. There was always something different to see at each circuit and coach Bennett was reminding me to look up! I celebrated with a glass of red wine ( tonight, not after the run!)

I have not discovered Coach Bennett yet but have heard him mentioned a number of times. Do you know how many times you went around the park? I like to treat running as an opportunity for sightseeing, if possible. Currently I begin on foot from our house but try to vary the direction and enjoy discovering new foot paths preferably away from any houses. I am in hilly Derbyshire. I wonder whether the afterglow is still with you. 🏃🏻‍♀️😊

The NRC app is fantastic with loads of different ideas and people talking about their experiences. I was on my 5 th circuit when the 90 minutes was up. I did consider finishing but psychologically ( and physically) I was spent. Each circuit brings something different - runners and dog walkers who acknowledge and then encourage as they see me on my second or third round, the building work over there starts up, the cafe gets busier, people appear on the hill in the distance, curtains open, the tennis players come out and the children’s park gets busier. I love it and all the bustle certainly took my mind off 90 minutes. The other , more hilly route I take is much more countryside which is fine. It offers different challenges but there are less people and things to see so I guess it’s more monotonous. Coach Bennett often tells you to smile so I feel myself smiling every so often for no reason at all! It works. It relaxes you. Give your local park a go. Good luck.

Congratulations on your first 10k 🥳👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏅 Your journey sounds pretty much like mine, 90 minutes with Coach Bennett 👨🏻‍🦰. I too thought that longer distances were not for me but I’ve come to love those long slow runs, particularly at the end of a busy week. 10 miles next??

Faster then any of my four 10ks to date. But it does feel like a proper achievement, doesn't it? 5K sounded like it was always just about do-able for me, but I never thought I'd get any further. Well done. The first of many. I can hear your brain saying already "next one under 90 minutes."
