My first "Official" 10K

Having run 10K+ on a good number of training runs, yesterday I did my first "Official" 10K by running the Cardiff 10K. Really pleased with my performance as I kept a fairly steady pace throughout (at least according to my Strava analysis) and finished with a fairly respectable time of 1:06:46.

Now for Swansea 10K on 22 September!!

Well done WC8334! Great you have another lined up already - something tells me you’re enjoying running! 👍🏃🎉👏🏅👊

Definitely - am starting to think of a half next year sometime (possibly Newport in March)

Fantastic! 👏👏 I’m aiming for my first HM next spring too, most likely Bath. 😀

I did the Severn Bridge 10k a couple of weekends ago, so your neck of the woods. It was amazing - but very hot indeed. 🏃‍♀️🥵 😀

Very respectable time WC8334. Having got over the mental block around running with others by doing park runs, I am thinking about looking for a suitable local 10k. Maybe I need to work on the pace a bit first! Good luck in Swansea 👏👏👏👏😊

Speaking as the speediest thing since sliced bread, Beachcomber66 , I don’t think pace will ever be your problem! 😅😅

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Managing pace and distance is an issue though CC...I may need to saw 6 inches of the bottom of each leg 😊 to find a nice distance stride. I was overtaken by a thick sliced hovis only this morning!😂

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

Send those extra inches my way! I need all the help I can get! Are you a baguette then? I’d have thought a baguette would have been quicker than a Hovis! 😅😅😅

Too much of my 5' 10" is leg I think 😊

Do you know by any chance if you book it and just end up ill on morning if your not going, if you have to pay twice?

Not a clue sorry but suspect you would lose your money

Good to hear. Well done!

I did my first official 10K on Sunday at Dalkeith Country Park, Midlothian, Scotland. It was an all women run.

I found it was very motivating running with others and I think went faster than when running on my own.

I have a 10 miles on 3rd November round Derwent Water in the Lake District as my next goal.

WC8334 profile image
WC8334Graduate10 in reply to Grandtully

Well done to you too

You are definitely right about running with others - made a big difference to my time

Dalkeith park is a lovely spot for it, although it is a bit hilly in places. The appropriately named restoration yard is a great post run stop.

I do most of my parkruns at Vogrie park, just a few miles from there. Even when running in a crowd, there's something very relaxing about running through trees and countryside.

Well done. My first "official" one isn't until November, but I've done the distance at least 8 time on my weekly long runs. My best is 73 minutes, so well done on a good time too.
