Hiya,

After 3 weeks of not running due to weather, life and being not-in-the-mood-for-running, I finally pulled on my running shoes this morning. And that was about it of my running kit too...

We drove to our chalet at the coast this morning and I had forgotten all my running gear, not really planning on doing a run. So I had no sports bra, no running socks, no Gymboss for my Jeffing intervals, nothing. Luckily I do have a pair of running shoes there and I always wear my Garmin watch.

So I set up my Jeffing intervals in my Garmin and set off. The watch took its sweet time to find and lock on a satelite, but finally I could run!

I started very slow and my splits were all negative. Nothing impressive, I run SLOW. But a fun fact nevertheless. At about 10 minutes in, 3 boys on their bikes passed me and the youngest two of about 12 to 13 years old called out to me 'Good job, madam!'. I called out a thank you to them, a bit amazed that they were so polite. A few other people on their bikes said a good morning back and a few did not.

I planned on doing 30 minutes, thinking this to be a good amount of time to 'restart' running after 3 weeks. I did feel a little bit of protest in the ankles and knees, but nothing bad. The sun came out for the last 10 minutes, making me sweat like... well like something sweaty. But I had no trouble finishing the 30 minutes, ending at 3.33 km. Which actually is not even bad for me.

And how good did it feel to run again! I have missed it so much! Going through a bit of a difficult time at work (emotionally) and running feels good to give my mind a break from thinking too much about it. Fingers crossed that I now restart my habit of at least 3 runs a week!

Cheers, Evy

Congratulations to you Evy on that come back run today, nice that the cyclists cheered you on with your run, I am also a cyclist and often when I pass a runner I say good morning (like running it's usually the morning I cycle) to them as I pass.

β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Thanks and yes, always nice when they say hello back. The worls is sour enough, a mere hi can brighten up someone's day ☺

πŸ˜€πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸ½πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ Fab run, it sounds like. Quick 30min runs have a lot going for them. They are a part of any feel-good-plan!

It was nice, feeling really good for having run ☺

Well done for going without your sports bra. I don’t think I’m that brave. πŸ˜‚ but 30 minutes is a lovely run. Just enough especially in the heat and humidity.

β€’ in reply toKnittingrunner

Luckily I am not busty, but despite being small up front, they did bounce πŸ˜‚

That sounds like the perfect bouncy run for you! Maybe pick up another sports bra? Mine is from Tesco’s and does the job!

Well done for the negative splits, too! I do often try to do that on shorter runs as it flows better.

β€’ in reply toJools2020

I actually have 3, just plain Nike things. But the one that laid here at the coast was taken home last time for washing and I forgot to bring it along again. Same with my running socks. Air-brain πŸ˜‰.

I normally don't pay attention to the splits. But I had started really slow and calm. After my toxic 5, I sped up a tiny tiny bit and thought about trying to speed up a teeny tiny bit every km. And look and behold, it worked. Again: in a Slowpoke pace 😁

The pace doesn’t really matter! It’s the control. Once you have that control you can increase pace if you want to. I like negative splits on runs up to 5K. They just give me that control and the whole run seems easier. Oh, I’m pretty slow, too. 😊

First let me do a few more runs before saying I am back πŸ˜‰. But it does help me with the emotional struggle I'm going through at work. So I might just have to run to cope ☺

Good for you…. you have inspired me to get out again after weeks of not running! If you’ve got your running shoes and watch, you’re good to go. Well done, glad that the running is helping you cope with your difficult time. πŸ‘ x

β€’ in reply toVWBW

Thanks and good luck on getting out there again too!

Well done Evy, I like slow runs too as I see more what’s going on around me, and I can pass the time of day to other walkers and runners on my route. Keeeep πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Great you got out there. Always a good feeling to restart something you’ve not done for a while. 30 minutes is a nice distance to run. Just enough to start back with. Well done πŸ‘ Evy. 🌈🎢🌼

Well done for getting back out there! I'm still trying to talk myself back into it after not running for a couple of months!!

β€’ in reply toLearning2run

Start on a day you really feel like running and start small: just 20 minutes for example maybe with walking breaks. I'm trying to convince myself to run today after work to get back into the 3 runs a week ritual.
