Part 2, Running at 74

As I said in my previous post that I was targeting a sub 35 min 5k run getting ready for the return of the parkruns. I have been doing Hill runs to get my endurance up. The Hill that has had the job of seeing me stagger up it has a elevation gain of 23 meters over a distance of half a kilometer, my best is 3 mins 46 sec. Well to cut a long story short this training has done the trick only after a few weeks as I managed to turn in a 34 mins 27 sec 5k the other day. So I am not over the Hill at 74 just looking for a bigger one.😁

Yes the idea was after the hill a flat 5k would be a run in the park😁

Absolutely, we run uphill about once a week and are beginning to notice a difference in time on the flat but at mid sixties you would leave us for dust

I should have said that running is about getting out there which is the important thing. Time gives a goal but sometimes I wish I could be all Zen about it.

When we first started we were so slow and over time we’ve speeded up but easy running is what we enjoy so we don’t get too hungry up on speed but it’s nice when we realise we are a little faster

Very impressive Hamit, and you've confirmed what my running pals say about the need to run up hills to help train the body for faster flat runs. I always avoid them if I can, but am going to mix it up a bit more. I'm an older runner too and thought it might be a lot to ask of the body, especially the ticker, but, obviously, it can be fine and work in your favour.Thank you for letting us know that the hills are our friends as I've been told while running across comfortable, flat terrain!

Best wishes ☺️

Go for it, hug the Hill. 😁

Just like to add that I took a measured approach to the Hill. Did a walk run a few times before taking on the whole Hill.
