Self Isolating

Hi everyone. I’m halfway through my isolation period after contracting the ‘rona. I’m missing running so much. Does anyone have any advice about how I should go about getting back into my running routine after I finish isolating? It will be nearly two weeks without a run and I’m just wondering how easy (or not) it will be to get back into it. Thanks.

Depending how you feel in yourself a run just to see what happens with no plan on time or pace is a good start, if it feel tough build slowly over a few weeks, you shouldn’t lose fitness in 2 weeks but it’s a nasty virus so be kind to yourself and don’t push too hard until you are ready

Thanks. That sounds like good advice.

You won't have lost much fitness, but do be kind to yourself when starting back up. Bad virus infections can really sap your energy. Also you'll need time to get over any physical effects it's had on you. Try some easy runs, for example one of the early weeks from C25K.

Hi Marcomanc, I had mild covid back in November, and even though all I lost were my senses of taste and smell, I decided to take it easy when I started back running. Like you, I only had about 2 weeks off, but I eased back in gently just to be sure the virus hadn't taken more out of me than I thought. It hadn't, but at least I knew.

So yes, listen to your body and don't push anything. I'm sure you'll be fine, but better to be safe than sorry.

👍😀
